Hi Guys-
What with Tamiya producing new 1/16th armor kits these days, how much interest would you think be generated by some more modern armor subjects? The Tiger I, Sherman, and Pershing are all very nice (although the Pershing surprised me), but wouldn't you think that Tamiya would do well to release a modern large scale subject? What I wouldn't give for a 1/16 M48 or M60 RISE. Other subjects such as the M1 Abrams, Merkava, and Bradley IFV would probably be equally as welcome. What do you think:?

I would not pay the price they are asking for 1/16 scale armor with the current selection but if they where to come out with an Abrams or Bradley I probably would. I can't understand why they cost so much. I can understand it being maybe 2 or 3 times as much as the 1/36 but not around 8 to 10 times as much. Anyway, nothing would look cooler to me than one of the 2 vehicles I mentioned built up in 1/16 scale.

Kind like watches I guess. People always more willing to pay big bucks for classic such as Rolex, Omega, I.W.C., than they are willing to pay for a Timex. Sherman, and Tiger is like classics in the armor modelling, (Yeah, I am a bit surprised about that Pershing too). And contemporary tank may need another 40 to 50 years to become a classics, so I guess 30 years down the road, there should be a M1 in 1/16 scales with full function, cannon that shoots, smoke grenade that works, etc, etc, while technologies are more advanced.
Besides it's all about marketing, the WW II armor just have more market now, and Tamiya San himself a big German/WW II fan, so he must instructed his design department accordingly as well.... :-)

Great models those Tamiya 1/16 scalers, but whatever the beauty, the price remains............More heavy than the tanks/armor themselves.
Whatever the model they release.....got a family to support too....so I just can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars on that sort of models, even how much I'd like it.

Got 21st centry M48, M41 and the tiger, all in 1/18 at less than 50 bucks each. A little time and efort and I should have some nice large scale models. Plus saving myself mega bucks.

I agree with you ARMDCAV. I also have the M48 and the Tiger1. I also have the ME 109 and the P 38. Looking for the Corsair.
I'm deciding whether I should add some paint to the things or not. What do you think?

Oops, forgot. Also have the P 51. Wasn't sure about that one at first. That is until I attended a seminar given by one of the Tuskegee Airmen.
