I was reading through a old Military Modelling mag last night and came across an article by Mike Tovey (I stand under correction) about figure painting with enamels.

He makes reference to a technique called glazing. Apparently it is an alternative to a wash.

Does anyone use this technique? I would appreciate some more info on this.

I have started to experiment a bit more with enamel glazing. Its basically a wash, but controlled. For example .... when you have the face painted but want a redish hue on the cheeks, a very fine red glaze in this area will tone the shadows equally on the cheek area. Its a bit OTT to paint the red cheeks in.
Different dilution rates, gives different effects. A face painted on a winter figure, benifits with some blue or purple glazes ... it doesnt change the colouring or detail ... only the hue, which gives a nice cold finish.
Experiment a bit with this. Maybe somebody can explaint it better.

This is quite a dense question, but can I assume therefore that the "mix" includes a thinning agent as well as the varnish and colour?
