The shortest and the easiest way is to go to your local museum and ask for an appointment. Ask them if they'd be interested to buy your diorama.

I do quite a bit of this sort of thing... more often than not museums are more interested in "lend" programs than purchases, altough some very subject specific museums will commission certain works.
Local neighborhood or school libraries are also a good place to get exposure, provided they have a secure glass case to safely display your work without risk of damage.
Hobby shops will normally "accept for display" if yo are a regular customer, but often don't have a lot of space, or may only be able to offer short-term display.
I have also been approached by business owners... a number of my units are on display in the Dallas lobby of Hewlett Packard, where they have been for a few years... i rotate them out to keep the interests up.

Your regular Hobbyshop is a good start. They know you and It's advertisment for their business which would otherwise cost them a lot of money. I have some models on display at my local shop who opened up again a few weeks ago. Apart from the posibility of selling them, it gives me a little boost when I walk past the shop window and I see my models or dio's on display. And you never know, someone might walk past and think 'I want one of those' and ask about buying it or commisioning one.
