Could anybody tell me if some other stores might sell oil paints besides Michaels. I went in there yesterday, and for some reason they have prices way higher then then the suggested retail prices that internet stores have.

A little tiny tube of burnt sienna, to which I thought was a sample it was so small, but they wanted close to 7 dollars for it. If you sneezed while squeezing it, it would be gone. About the size of a tube of super glue.

Then the tube of an ounce and a half was a little over 10 dollars. I know this stuff is high, but this store is rediculous in my town, must be caused by the Cedar Point traffic, everything goes out of sight when it is open.

Now the hardware stores don't seem to do anything like this, but I guess because it is by the high price motels.

If you can send me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you

That price is ridiculous! in my local Michaels a tube as big as a toothpaste tube was 10.99.

Try WalMart, AC More, Hungates, or if you live near a college - thier book store/supply store would have them.

Kerry,

The next time you are in Michaels check the bottom shelf in the pastels and pencil section. I bought an 18 tube set of Reeves Oil Colors for $5.00. Obviously the quality may not be as good as the higher priced brands but they serve my purposes. The set includes Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Yellow Ochre, Payne's Gray and Flesh. Lacks Raw Umber and Burnt Umber. They also have a set of acrylics.

also for the higher priced items i keep an eye in the local paper for their 40% off any item coupons.

Roger that-look for all sorts of oil paints-I have seen them from 3.99 for tiny "tester size" tubes of "cheapo oils" to excess of $10.00 per small size tube.

I reccomend checking Hobby Lobby if there is one near by. They have a lot of sales going on most of the time-last time I stopped by my local Hobby Lobby they had a box full of oil and acrylic tubes on sale for $3.00/pop.
Also they carry a decent range of models including some new releases-if you stumble on a 1/2 off all plastic kits sale you can get some really neat stuff. Got my Tamiya Sherman for $15.00 and my 1:32 Trumpeter Iraqui Freedom F:18 for $70.00.

We have no college near by, and I asked her where is the working mans brands, and she tried to tell me that the price was caused by what they put in it, and I tried to explain to her that it is way cheaper anywhere else.

So her response was same as, go elsewhere. Believe me I tried to find the cheaper brands, but they only had 3 brands, and they all held the same price.

I wished we had a hobby lobby, that would make our LHS take notice, cause they are the only ball game around, all the rest closed up, and if they didn't sell bicycles, and other things like that, they probably wouldn't be here either. I've seen models set until they go OOP before somebody buys them, they are so high priced.

There is just to much other things to do around here I guess, for a hobby shop to make it.

Now we do have a Walmart, so I'll give them a try, so thanks for that information.

Best Regards Kerry

Wow! Very high I must say.

These oils here cost only about 3 USD and then can last a lifetime (IF I do only figs that is). I have another one which is 1/3 that size and is about 1 USD.

I thank you Tracy, but I had just left Dick Blicks site, and I wrote down a bunch of prices, and boy they are way cheaper. Their Windsor & Newton 200 ML which is 6.75 ounces and that is a giant tube compaired to Michaels, and Dick only wants $ 5.38 for that big tube of a top brand and $2.18 for 37 ML tubes which is 1.25 oz.. I think this was the big one at Michael's, that they wanted 10 dollars for.

I believe I'm going to order from Dick Blick, are these the main colors I need Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, Raw Umber, Yellow Ochre. cause I can buy all these for 10 bucks, and this is supposed to be premium paints to what I heard, and to get them all for 10 dollars, or $25 dollars on the big tubes, then I know it will last me a long time. They say the Windsor & Newton are on sale right now, so they are just as cheap as the other paints they have, if anybody else is interested.
200ML of Winsor & Newton $5.38
37ML of Winsor & Newton $2.18

Does anybody know if there is any other color that is used quite a bit. Thank you

Just to point out something on this issue. W & N have several ranges of paints, some being a lot cheaper than the others. Be sure you are comparing the same range of paints.

Hey Shonen. thats the same brand of oils I use! For one of the cheaper brands they are excellent. I have some other cheap brands and its easy to tell between good and bad. The others i just use for ground work, these are good enough for figures. I have a few single W&N paints, and these Louvre paints are nearly as good.
