A 75mm Sherman with the way their other release in the Sherman and TD family have been is very welcome. I only wish they could have been a little more creative on the decals. Nitemare II is the same as the Italeri kit. Oh well small problem that hopefully Archer will take care of for us. Now if we could only get the DML Shermans to market. Thanks Academy!

I think it looks like the folks at Academy fixed the vertical backplate problem that was in the red army version. At least it looks like it in the side-view picture...

Hopefully, they added the cheek bulge on the front of the turret along with correct the rear angle of the hull. It looks like they have the European style duckbills on the track. Too bad!

A good USMC M4A2 kit is a nice welcome. I wonder how much if any interior is included ? The Academy M10A1 kit has a complete interior including the engine.

Did the tanks in the Pacific war have a different style duckbill end connectors? I hace seen some tank pictures that did use them over there

Chad,
Duckbills came in at least two designs: the narrow ones like on the Tamiya M4A3 and wide scoop ones that look like a child's sand toy. IIRC, the wide scoop ones were made in the US while the narrow ones were made by European contractors to help alleviate the duckbill shortage during the winter of '44/'45. I have yet to see a picture of a Sherman in the Pacific with the narrow duckbills. All of the pictures of Shermans w/duckbills on Iwo and Okinawa that I have seen have the wide scoops. Also, any picture of a Sherman stateside that I have see with duckbills all have the wide scoop type. It appears to me that the new Academy kit has the narrow kind.

I suppose it's a matter of interpretation, but I think the EECs on the new Academy kit look more like the "wide scoop" ones. Nonetheless, changing tracks is a simple fix. I think this release is pretty exciting.
Like others, I wish there was a clearer pic of the right side of the turret -- wonder if the bulge is there or not ...

I agree Bob. The GI types were like a shallow, square box cut on a diagonal and welded onto the end of the normal end connector, covering the track pin holes. The "european" types were a piece of steel curled around the end connector.
(There were also cast GI types with a gusset in the middle but I don't have a pic handy to see if these were cast integrally with the end connector or welded on.)

Gentlemen :-)
I looked at the pic of the real M4A2 with those markings that Academy has on the boxtop The pic is on page 65 of the Concord book Tank Battles Of The Pacific War
The tracks are the T54-E1 steel chevron, not the T48 that comes with the kit
The duckbills look like the correct kind
The commander's hatch on the real type has the one-piece vision cupola The kit shows the split type commanders hatch
The real tank also has the penny nails on the hatches as well
Also shows some T54-E1 links on the left turret side as well and does not have the wading stacks on
