I'd think the stryker would be an excellent weapon system in a place like Iraq. It has better protection than a humvee and more mobility than a Bradley or Abrams. I heard they were deploying some to Iraq but havn't heard much of them. Why?

I don't know where they are used in Iraq, I have only seen pictures of Strykers in the countryside, no build up area's.

I saw some pictures of burnt out vehicles and vehicles stuck in the mud, so I have some questions about protection and mobility. Certainly if you look at the bar armor they had to apply to the vehicle to make them somewhat RPG-proof....

Think there is some info about the Stryker in the latest Concord Special-Ops magazines, but I haven't received my copies yet, so I don't know for sure...

That even looks like a diorama.

BTW- The troops stacked up in the left of the photo aren't waiting for chow, they are about to do a forced entry into that building.

Hi Guys, having been a member of the Signal team that provided the Stryker Brigade's phones for the first 4 months they were in Iraq I can say on good authority that they are based in the Northern city of Mosul. My unit transitioned them in when they replaced the 101st Airborne last March. I don't have any pictures of the Strykers but I can get some very good quality ones from some of my buddies. I will post them if anyone's interested.

Hello
Most Strykers are stationed in Mosul and some are in Central Iraq. In my album I have one pic of a Stryker. I do however, have new pics of the prototype Stryker Gun Platform and Stryker 120mm Mortar Carrier. I need someone's help in posting the pics, I can send them out.
Thanks :-)

It's useless to me until someone does one in plastic, ok maybe resin. I think you have to look at it in the light of the WW II Sherman it was great at what it's intended purpose was. It's a whole lot better then driving around town in a Hummer but unless you make the thing able to go and take the same punishment that an M! Abrams can it's a mop up vehicle. Considering everyone in Iraq seems to be able to get an RPG at their local Ocmed Mart it has the same problem the M113 and LVTP 5A1 had in Vietnam troops tended to ride outside because they where so worried about RPG and mines. Every weapons system has it's drawbacks.

First two are the 120mm Mortar carrier, this system is about ready for fielding. I don't know the amount of ammo stored. However, the 120mm Mortar delivers a on the target punch.

The last photo is the 105mm Gun System. The unit uses an auto loader. The ammo is computer selected. This system still has bugs to work out. Saw videos of the 105mm firing to the left or right side of the vehicle. The recoil rocked the vehicle heavily, even on flat ground. The also had the 105mm round that is filed with hundreds of metal balls, large shotgun shell.

I'm sure the Internet has more info on these vehicles.

If one was to scratchbuild this thing, would the Italeri LAV be a suitable base or are the two soooo different that it would be noticable?

Scratch building using a LAV III chassis would work fine. You need to pay attention to some of the the details along the top and sides of the vehicle as there are some differences. I'm sure we could find the pix and other images that would help in the detailing.
