Still some work to be done on this, specifically adding figures, which will be from the Tamiya Russian Army Assault Infantry set. I still need to do a little cleanup/detailing, which may include gluing a few individual leaves to the tree.

I would say it looks great-the tree does look a bald so a few leaves or perhaps just some leaves on the ground would do it (bald tree-early spring/end of winter or late fall).

The armour looks great-really like the weathering-would not do anything with that.

I do have one question for you, the grass/hay-what did you make it out of? It looks perfect.

The grass is made from a wisk broom that I purchased at Michaels craft store. It comes in two different types. There is probably enough to last a lifetime.

The period is meant to be very late winter so most of the leaves would have fallen off the tree and winters snow would have turned most of the leaves on the ground too mulch, but you always end up with those leaves that just don't fall off the tree. I'm thinking of adding some dead/brown grass (but very short) near the base of the tree as well. I just can't seem to find the right material yet to create the grass.

WONDERFUL weathering on the armor! And the tree looks great as well....

If you want to add "dead leave" here is my method:

Dry one or two bags of tea leaves from a USED teabag.

1) Spray the branched area of your tree with a mist of diluted white glue.

2) Sprinke the tea shreds over the tree, allowing the bits for attached where they may, to the damp glue solution. Repeat several times until you get the kind of coverage desired.

3) If the glue dries "glossy", simply spray a bit of Matt Spray (i prefer ModelMaster 1960) to restore the right finish... and to help "seal" the leaves to the tree.

I really love the su85 and the tall grasses. Your tree is amazing as well, I think it would benefit from a few leaves scattered here and there on the branches and the ground. Do you have any plans for a little snow on the dio? If not you could possibly make some grass laying over around the tree showing it as if it has had heavy snow on it for quite awhile. Other than that excellent work I cant wait to see more as you add the figs. Cheers Kevin

wow awesome job on weathering. I do have to say please dont use the tamiya figures. they are usually poorly molded. There are plenty of other figures you can buy online.

Damn! That is a very good build. I like the way you weathered the tank destroyer. It's very good.

Can't wait to see the figures being placed in that dio.

Wouw,

Thanks for the photo's you've took when you were building. Now I understand the winter wash and the laundry detergent

I will give that I a try too.

Keep up the great work!

Hi,

A question though.

We don't have Testor's sealer here in the Philippines.

So, what other products can be used as a substitute sealer? Would Future work as a sealer placed between the whitewash and the base color?

I want to know because most of my paints are acrylic and I don't want to buy Tamiya enamels other than for weathering. They come in very small bottles with the same price as the acrylics.

OK. Let me answer some questions.

For leaves, I'm going to use Barley flack (sp?). They look just like miniature leaves. I'll glue them one by one to the tree and litter a few on the ground.

The tree is made from the root of a bush I had pulled out of my front yard when I was doing some landscaping this summer.

I've thought about adding a really small amount of snow, but am not sure what I want to use to create it as I want to avoid yellowing at any cost. I've had the most luck using marble dust, so that may be what I go with.

I made another trip to Michaels this weekend and they had some really small decorative wisk brooms that were perfect for the second type of grass I want to add. The color is the same as the taller grass, but it's a bit thinner and doesn't have the small barbs coming off the sides.

The figures I mentioned are the Soviet tank rider set. I agree that there are a lot of better resin figures out there, but to be honest, I don't feel like shelling out around $14 per figure.

Impressive diorama so far. My only suggestion is to add a bit of snow, which would emphasize the late winter time period. I have had good luck with the Woodland Scenics Snow product. You can see pictures of the diorama I did with that product here in the diorama features. Also, be careful when adding leaves individually that you maintain a random look.
