Hey guys.
Some months ago I started work on a 1:48 Academy Su-27 Flanker B. I put many parts together but the only paint job that I did was the nose. I airbrushed it off white. Then I set the model asside due to exams etc, which is all over now. I decided to get back to work, but I want to change the color scheme to this -

Note the color of the nose. Its a dark grey color. What I want to know is, can I airbrush the grey directly over the off-white nose OR do I have to scrub off the white & then spray it grey? The paint has set so I would rather not do that. I tried it with some paint remover but to no avail. Will it be OK if I just spray on top of the off-white?
Cheers & thanks in advance,
WD.

You should have no problem going right over the paint. As always do a few thin coats as opposed to one heavy coat.

agreed - if the off white is a thin coat (usually so with airbrushing) you should be fine. It will actually act as a base coat.

I think I should point out that it is not a thin coat. Its not thick either, kind of in-between.

How much detail could potentially be covered up by the grey coat if the white undercoat is left? If you feel that alot of detail will be lost, perhaps the white coat should be removed...

What paint are you using?

The off white was Humbrol. They grey which is going to replace it is a local brand, nothing special.

If you want to strip the paint, I normally use brake fluid to strip humbrol. BE VERY, VERY CAREFUL! do a forum search on stripping enamels, i think a few ppl use oven cleaner as well. problem is these chemicals aren't the same all over the world.

Hi Wilddog
As for getting a rank, you must first "Sign in". Then in the top right hand corner press on "My Account", then "Change Password and/or Your Settings". After the page loads scroll to the bottom and select your rank!!
That does it!
Happy Modeling
