Interesting concept for your dio.

One thing to help alleviate crowding is to shape the dio base differently. In other words, a square or circle shaped base doesn't always have to be used for a dio scene.

Pink styrofoam, (or any stryrofoam product for that matter), cuts and shapes easily, allowing you to shape the base anyway that you would like, to more appropriately pose your figures and vehicles.

Take a pice of paper, and layout out your tank and figs the way you would like to see them. Trace around them allowing for space for the hedge and shell hole. Then cut your styrofoam to this shape. It doesn't really matter what the final shape of the base is, as long as the base allows you to pose your scene in the most effective manner.

Good luck and keep us posted as you move along with this project.

Hey Tsunami
I know the folks have mentioned that it looks a bit cramped, but I recon it gives the dio a sense of closeness and confinement. Afterall, things are pretty close in the bocage and hedgerows.
Only thing I'm not too sure on is your positioning of the radioman. Looks like you have positioned him right in the path of advancing/running troops...

Hi Tsunami Bomb,

Just a thought. Would the base be circular or rectangular/squarish in shape? If the latter, remember to put everything at an angle, not parallel to the sides of the base so that it will implicate a sense of continuality.

The radioman would seem to be out of place in this scene. The figures you depict give one sence of story while a radio man (I'm guessing he has one of those big radio sets Tamiya and Italeri have released some years ago) woud give another. Those radios don't look all that mobile and you'd ask yourself, how did it get there? Why was it set up there when there's the area is clearly not secired?

When putting something like this together, consistency is most important. The viewer should be able to understand the story without title, much less a detailed explanation from the builder.

well my idea is that its early in the morning. The german soldiers havent slept well all night waiting for an ambush from the enemy. They here a shell falling. BOOM, the first one hits(shows on the pic of my dio) The germans are cut off, they are all scattering for their defensive positions for the attack was only 5 minutes away. The radio man trys rigerously to get ahold of the luftwaffe and some tank support. Their call was denied. The hell has broke loose for its the begging of the end.

Sounds pretty cool, i'm not much for abandoned tanks but I think the idea is great! That artillery hole should be fun to make.

Ciao!

I decided to put a dead soldier that has been hit from the shell that just exploded and I need a 1/35 medic or figure hopping a wall to get over to him. I have seen figures hopping walls and stuff but they are all carrying guns. If I were to transform this figure into a medic he cant be carrying a gun.

The gun is attached to the hands already though, i would have to cut the gun out. Then find a first aid box. But actually I am up for doing that. Thanks Henk!

well actually, youd have to read my story that I posted on the last page of this post. I did move the shell hole to the left a little.

I am planning on putting more figures in there. It is a pretty small dio so it might be cramped, so im not going to over-due it. But I am going to get more figures in there for sure.
