I just pre ordered an M4A2 (Academy 13203) from HobbyLink Japan. Fool that I am for Shermans the title intrigued me and forced me into buying it. Question for the Group--" does anyone know what the M4A2 Sherman US Navy from Academy looks like?"
thanks
DJ
PS I would have bought it if they advertised it as German M4A2... Sherman Nuts Rule.

U.S Navy is a mistake. It should be U.S. Marines. The kit is the 75 mm version with wading trunks, similar to the Italeri kit. They have details on the Academy web site

If you ask a squid, he'll remind you that the Marines are part of the Navy. However if you tell that to a Marine he'll politely acknowledge that fact and then deck a sailor.

I love both. I've heard many squid/swabbie jabs, but those are new. Echoing everyone, it is the USMC version, sorry to give your hopes up.

However, that brings up a good question: could any Shermans, any tanks for that matter, have been used by the Navy (USMC excluded)? Looking at the other countries (armored divisions in the Luftwaffe, and tanks in naval infantry units, would the Navy have had any units equipped, even for experimental purposes, with tanks? What about Seebees; just bulldozers and engineering equipment?

Back to your original question, yes, it's a Marine M4A2. Must have been scrambled in HobbyLink's translator! http://www.academy.co.kr/en2/pla/pla_detail.html?id=370&p_mode=1

The rest of this thread looks like the Marines and the Squids are going to dance for a while. I heard that's why they have Marines on ships ... so the sailors have someone to lead at the dances ...

You could always do it up in battleship gray. I believe I read someplace that some of the Marine Shermans were done up that way because that was the paint they had on hand. I always wanted to do up an M4A2 in navy gray, it would be cool.

All I have to say is SEMPER FI, MARINES !! Any time there is a fight anywhere in the world, the Navy gives us a ride

I do want to thank you for your service aboard the USS Cleveland, you had a nice chowhall.

To all the Navy Corpsman, a big HOORAH !! You guys patch us up and keep us Marines on the move !! They go to the field with us, share in the miserable weather, and eat MRE's just like us

All I know is I'm up for re-enlistment, and I can't wait to sign another contract !!

Cheers !!

DJ, sorry but I'm 37.

USS Cleveland is a Navy Assault Ship. It may have been a light cruiser at one time, but I doubt it. It had a helo-pad on the rear deck (stern) and the bow of the ship opened up and flooded to allow Amtracs (AAV's) to drive out.

I was onboard that ship for only a short period (and glad it wasnt any longer) in 2000 as part of my 2-week AT at Coranado, CA. Excellent training.

My father served in the Navy in WWII in the North Atlantic. He served on DD's and DE's. He's still an old salt, and loves to brag about his experiences while serving his country.

Cheers !!

Alpen

You Sailors and Marines are really tough on each other...

I did hear once that marines are like bananna's...they start of green, turn yellow, and die in bunches... :-)

Who was it that was "yellow" at the Frozen Chosin ? Certainly not any Marines. At least we took care of our wounded, and a few of the Army that got left behind by their own.

Stings like the dickens, doesnt it ?

Foward the Colors !!

Be careful here. The 7th Infantry Division sufffered as much if not than the 1st Marine Division during that series of actions. We never leave our dead behind.

Well said DJ...........

But then, since the Army can't navigate unless they have a direct line to someone at S2. And the Navy requires clearance from some rank-hungry Annapolis dandy before setting sail, I think the only ones who'll be able to find their way allllllllllllllllllll the way over to the 'History' Forum will either be the Air Force (who are used to getting from 'here-to-there' under IFR conditions) or............MARINES!!!

Tread.

Oh, and DJ.........my apologies for being so guilty of going off-topic......but those squids are just too tempting.
I am also very intrigued by your query as to the potential of a Navy 'Grau' Shermie..........wish somebody had some pics.
