Hi Guys
in my wanderings around the net I found this

Can anyone tell me more about it please?

M42???
That's an M4A1E9 -- an M4A1(75) dry remanufactured with an "E9" suspension. Notice the extended end connectors on both sides of the tracks? This was like likely a post-WWII remanufactured tank -- along with the E9 suspension, it has a late single-hatch commander's vision copula and a wide M34 gun mantlet. Some of these tanks also got rearmed with 76mm guns, ala the tanks seen in the movie "Kelly's Heroes."

Thank you mr Hollowpoint sir.I got the M42 bit from the url of the pic.
It's a version of the sherman I've never seen before and I found it while searching alltheweb.com for Sherman Flamethrower pics.

No problem, Peter. There were some pics posted over on Missing Links a few week ago of details of the suspension. Some of these remanufacured tanks ended up serving in interesting places, like Pakistan and India.

That picture is actually an M42B1. These were 75mm tanks converted to flamethrowers. Note that the barrel is split horizontally. This is a 75mm tube bored and cut to protect the flame gun.
There were also M42B3s, based on M4A3s. I'm not sure whether they were large or small hatch though.
There are a surprising number of these that survived. Most of them have the E9 conversion IIRC.

Looks like someone forgot to sand the halves of the turret :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) Whoops! Just kidding! Like the size of the pic. Any more shots?

Chris has a couple of CDs of tank pics I think this is in his Sherman CD. I've got all but the Jap tank one. They are real great for reference shots he does a walk around on his subjects. You can get them at his web site: http://www.toadmanstankpictures.com
