Hey guys, i just started making my first base for my first diorama. I plan to use mud so I need to know how to make and apply mud in simple step by step instructions. Thanks Alot.

I usually use plaster of paris for mud. Just mix the stuff with water and brown paint untill you get the concistancy of mud. You can throw some static grass or Italian spices in to the mix if you want to give it some texture.
Once mixed just slop in on the base and spread it around over the areas you want to cover. If it's a road you want to make don't forget to roll a tire through the mud to leave tracks. A few passes should cover it. If you a puting an AFV in the dio press it into the mud so you leave track marks up to the spot where the vehicle is going to sit.
Don't forget the footprints! An old figure is good for that.

First, determine the setting for your dio. All mud isn't brown. I usually mix baking soda with the paint (more soda-more clumps). Then overspray with Polyuerathane. This one was done with Permascene for the coarse areas and the above method for the sloppy parts. Hope this helps.

i too mix baking soda w/ the paint, but add a tad bit of water and white glue. then gloss it upso it looks wet!
