i have a problem with my aztec 470 (plastic body) basicly when i tried to use it there is no air coming out at all, ive disconnected the hose and air is coming out so somewhere in the airbrush is a problem. when i opened it up it seems like the parts inside arn't very user servicable. is there anything i can still do? whats really annoying is the fact that the last time i used it, it worked like a dream, then 4 days later this happens

i hearby award pvtparts the "modelling angel" medal. the problem turned out to be a build up of paint in the part that the nozzles screw into.after a solvent clean its working fine again.i am now a happy bunny! thanks. :-)

I think there might be a clue in there somewhere

How do you clean your brush after use? And what paint do you use? It is important to clean you brush thourougly after each use, and also in during breaks in painting. It only takes a small bit of dried paint to turn your 'fine line' setting to finish that intricate German Camouflage scheme, into a 'muckspreader' .

Hi Phil

Have you tried changing the nozzle? That is where the problem is likely to be.

If you can get air through a clean nozzle then you need to strip the first one down. I know the manufacturer tells you not to do this but they come apart quite easily making it much simpler to dig out the gunge.

Take a firm hold of the outer plastic casing and pull the inner, white assembly out. It's quite stiff the first time. There is a little bit of plastic sticking out of one end that jigs up and down on a spring. Pull on the this bit of plastic, until it releases when you will find a needle attached to the other end and a spring wrapped around the needle. Dunk the whole lot in an airbrush cleaner for an hour or two when the caked paint should come off the various bits fairly easily. Don't forget to dig out caked paint from inside the inner, white, plastic needle holder. Give it a good blow through and hold it up to the light until you can see right through it. There is a tiny hole (about 0.5mm) at the business end.

To reassemble just reverse the procedure.

I've had an Aztek for about five years and I have found that it does not stay as clean as the manufacturer would like you to believe. The down side is that it is fiddly to clean. I gave up on mine eventually and splashed out on an Iawata Eclipse. It wasn't cheap but it's a joy to use and end of session cleaning takes about two minutes.

Hope this helps

i gave the nozzles a good clean out last week, as you describe. the amount of dried paint in them was unbelivable,my prblem this time was inside the casing, where paint had got into the air outlet in the part where the nozzles screw in, after cleaning this out its working fine, you have a point about what they say about the build up of paint in the nozzles, i just used to spray thinners through them to clean them and thought that was enough. it was'nt and that led to some of problems i've had recently

is it me or so many people have problems with there aztek... and those who throw there's away and buy a badger or iwata or wtv, are more likely to be happy airbrushers again?

Well I have both an Aztec 4709 and an Badger 200, and have had minor problems with both of them....however having said that, most of the problems are in operator error, either in not thinning the paint enough, or not cleaning the AB properly.

I get good results with either, and have no problems now.

Well said Viper I have used mine for years without a problem. It is a good brush to cut your teeth on and with practice and learning to adjust the air flow you can create great camo easily. I never understood the bashers of this Air Brush.
