G'day guys
i was thinking about this situation, as its for a dio im working on, set in khe sanh, where the base is under seige during the tet offensive... now then...
plan is im gonna be making a segment of the perimiter, sandbag bunkers, trench lines, and a dug in M48, now then, the M48 is being used as a stationary gun, so, once the enemy begins to attack the perimiter defenses, and the poop really hits the fan, what would the M48 crew be doing, the driver would serve no purpose right? the gunner and loader would be working on firing at the incoming NVA, and what about the commander, would he most likely close the hatch and do his job, while maning the 50' inside the cupola? would he have the hatch open and man the roof mounted 50? and one last thing, what would small arms fire do to the M48, say an AK round, or an SKS, would it dent the 48? would it dent it and chip off paint? would it do nothing at all?
sorry for the long post but i would like to know what some of you guys think.
cheers
Gunny

G'day Dave...sounds like a great Dio you got going there...I think that the commander would be inside calling for air support or recovering fire, while the driver is commandeered to man the roofmount '50, as the M48 crew is busy pumping rounds at the incoming NVA...As far as AK damage to the M48, it would probably be light to minimal...

G;day guys, thanks for that, this makes it easy now i only need one crew figure to be visable.
James, not all of the ground around the perimeter was uphill, there was alot of flat ground also, as for the M48 and small arms damage, im sure that during some stage or another it wouldve taken a few rounds, so what would the shots have actually done, dents? chips? scratch the paint?
cheers guys

If it hit sheet metal it might penetrate, hit on the armor would chip the paint...7.62 isn't going to do much to an M48.
