Hi!
Any suggestions for mixing up a good sand color for US & UK desert sand for OIF.
In the Tamiya kits they usually just refer to the spray can colors for the main hull color but not a mix for their acrylics.
I once used a combo of OD spray can and OD acrylic. They were quite different!
I suppose tamiya wants everyone to buy their spray cans on top of everything

Ulrik,
If you dont mind using enamels white ensign models do a pretty good match of both colours and they are cheap as well

Hi guys!
Problem is there's not not a lot of paint to choose from here in Norway, mostly just Humbrol and Tamiya. Since I prefer using acrylics I end up with Tamiya.
Still hoping for some good recipes!!!

I've heard that Tamiya's Sand is almost a perfect match for US OIF armor. Icould be wrong though.

Great question. I am stressing about this colour too. I use to build modern jets for 10 yrs, buddy of mine got me into AFV Modern Armour. I love them and I am having fun but stressing about paint colours.
I have M1A1 and Chally 2 and I am trying to find out how to mix Tamiya paints to get the proper colour matches. I know Tamiya has the spray can of light sand, but I don't like laquers or enamels. Anyone know what Tamiya acrylic colours to mix to get this Gulf War Sand colour.
PLEASE help before I go back to Jets!!!!!!!!!

I can't vouch for their availability but I use Testor's Model Master Acryl paints. I have found they airbrush great right out of the bottle. British Gulf Armor Light Stone is number 4813, US Army/Marines Desert Tan is number 4812.

Thanks, I am aware of the Model Master paints. I have been told by many AFV modelers that these colours US/Marine Sand, British Sand and the Isreal Sand are all very inaccurate. The US Sand is way to dark and not yellow/orange enough.
I do not understand why Tamyia bring out a perfect colour but in a spray. They should release a bottle of this colour, not a spray.
I read a article in Tamiya Magazine, guy built the M1A2 and sprayed Buff with a couple drops of Deck Tan but this does not look correct either. You would think with all the Gulf model releases from Tamiya that they would bring out a new proper colour in the bottle acrylic line.

I am having the same problem. I can get the TS 46 lacquer, but don't like it since I prefer to airbrush rather than use spray cans. Not to mention the smell from lacquer paint is pretty horrible.
It is frustrating when there is no acrylic bottle from Tamiya.
I was wondering about mixing buff with either desert yellow, or dark yellow.
