I read on the forum that putting future into a hollowed out headlight dries to a clear solid. I tried but it seems my future evaporated. What am I doing wrong?

It's best to this before the head lamps are glued in place. If you did this and the Future evaporated, do you at least see the shine from the Future? If so just add another drop of Future into the hollow while the headlamps are resting securely on their backs. Allow this to dry and add another if necessary.

You may need to use crystal clear or 5 minute epoxy for the head light lens. Future is basically a clear acrylic coat. It is not evaporating, but drying. Try successive applications.

Yes, I like to use this technique as well. Ken and Rob have pretty much answered your question. The only thing I would add is, you don't need to hollow out your headlights too deep to get the desired effect. I went WAY too deep on my first attempt. Doesn't hurt anything, but it's much easier if you don't. Also, you may want to coat the inside of the headlight with silver paint, or insert a small piece of aluminum foil to heighten the effect.

I have used Krystal Kote or white glue to fill in hollowed out headlights or those with separate lens. The glue is thicker and you can build the covex lens as oppossed to the flat lens you will with Future. Future, I have found, works better for lens on instrument panels and headlights that are solid (where you paint the "glass" then cover with future to get appearance of glass. It takes fewer applications of Krystal Kote or white glue, plus the it is thicker and easier to control. If you want to continue using Future for hollowed-out lights, the recommendations above are excellent.
