I know that the finer the brush less paint it holds. I can't seem to get consistent lines with my smaller brushes I get a blob and then it is lighter. I am trying to paint shadow areas on 1/35th faces. Any suggetsions would be helpful. Maybe this is related to my other post about damaged brushes. BTW I am using oils.

Hi godfather,
Try this and see if it helps:
After you dip the tip of the brush into the paint (straight from the tube), gently give it a stroke on your palette paper (or where ever your paint is). This should remove the blob on the end of the brush. Then, gently draw the shadow into the fold on the face. Don't put down too much paint. Next, gently push the paint into the fold with a clean brush, preferably a "flat" rather than a "round" pointed brush. Repeat this process until you like the results.
Do this at the "wet on wet" stage and again when the base is dry and you are adding the deepest shadows.
I hope this helps. Let me know if it does.

You may also try thinning the paint. I now thin every type of paint I use and it seems a lot easier for me to control that way. You may have to go back and put another coat on, but it dries faster thinned anyway. Works for me anyway. I thin my oils with artist quality linseed oil. That does increase the drying time but I like the results.

To achieve a fine point and at the same time have a lot of paint you need to use a script/liner brush like one of these:

I do exactly what mongo dose and the results are spectacular. youre better of wiping off the blob and then painting. even if theres barley any paint on the brush, you can always hit ti again. It's better to have to little paint than too much, then you can add more ,it's a little harder to take paint away without ruining your preveus coat.
