Does anyone know anythong about the 1/35 Hasegawa/Bego DAK Kubelwagen? I think it's an older kit and not the newer Bego one recently reviewed in FSM. Is this a good kit? Any problem areas? I have a chance to pick one up pretty cheap (that should be incentive enough!!) but first I wanted to know if anyone has experience with this particular kit. I also have Tamiya's 1/35 kubel and I was wondering about a comparison.
Thanks
Bob
ps - I actually picked up the kit an hour or so ago (paid $20.00 CDN for it, so not bad). A quick scan of the contents includes a swatch of cloth for the rolled up canvas cover plus a plastic one for a 'top up' version; a small fret of PE which includes the folded frame for the canvas top, some door handles and the foot rests behind the front fender; decent looking decal sheet (Hasegawa logo) that includes versions for at least three vehicles. The fenders come as seperate pieces but the doors are moulded together 2 by 2 so they'll need to be cut apart if I want to show them open. There's an okay looking engine the bottom of which is moulded as part of the rear pan. There aren't any figures included which is a bit dissapointing as there's 3 shown on the box top. 111 parts, looks like a nice kit.....anyone else??

Yeah! seems to be a great little kit, but I've just gone as far as surveying the bags of parts and reading the instructions. The price I paid seems to equate with US$ and import costs to Canada. Models are expensive here. BTW, do you know anythng about Tamiya's kubel engine maintenance set? does it come with the engine too or just the repair equipment and a figure? I've ordered Eduard's PE set 'cause I also have Tamiya's kubel kit but methinks I should have ordered two Eduard sets 'cause the Bego kit would look great all prettied up with aftermarket stuff too. You're right, ..the Hasegawag/Bego kit seems to be as good if not better that Tamiya's. I looked again at the boxtop and the date of issue seems to be 1993 (or maybe that's the copyright stamp - I'm not sure). Anybody else know something about the vintage/heritage of this kit?
thanks

Yeah i believe it does come with an engine too! heres the description from tamiya " This kit is designed to be combined with the 1/35 Kubelwagen Type 82 vehicle model.
Contains detailed soldier clothed in the M43 field jacket, kneeling to repair automobile.
Includes an authentically detailed 4-cylinder engine.
Tool accesories include a tool box, grease gun, hammer, wheel nut wrench, spark plug wrench, rigid mount, vise, jack with crank and
an anvil.
Other accessories include a workbench, wooden box, and various car parts."
ibuilt my bego kubel straight from the box! i enjoyed it very much ,i normally A M my kits to the max but for a change a decided to go all plastic! i think that was the change ?
i plan on doing an S.S. feldpolizei one with all sorts of junk piled on it ! so any etch would probably have been obscurred by all that
but i can only imagine how much more perfect it would be with some etch !
i'd like to see it when you do "etch it up" please!

Bego, or as it is now known Tasca (Yes, the Tasca of the FANTASTIC Pz. IIL Luchs) did the Kubelwagen some years ago. It was reboxed not only by Hasegawa, but also by DRAGON and I agree it is a really good model.
As to the Tamiya maintenance set, it does have the engine in it!

Hi all,
There are a few differences from the older Kubelwagen kits that have been before. And, I have a lot of Kubels from a lot of makers. This is about the Tasca/Bego Kubel.
1. fore and aft floorboards
2. positioning of the jerrycan and how the jerrycan is made
3. figures, sorry fellas they suck, mine have bad sinkholes in them and the facial moldings did not come out very good
this is just my opinion, if it were related to Tamiya, the figures would not look as bad as they did
and, Tamiya's is cheaper

The Hasegawa/Bego kit I'm talking about doesn't have seperately moulded floorboards and there are no figures with the kit. Also, there's no jerry cans or extra equipment with it so I'm gonna hunt around for detail sets. I'm agreeing with 'Savage' that it must have been an earlier version (early 90's vintage) 'reboxed' by Hasegawa. In looking closer, the PE frames for the convertible top are a great touch, but the instruction tell you to roll the cloth swatch provided for the top around a plastic core supplied with the kit that the PE frames are to be attached to. I don't think the top looked like a rolled piece but more of an accordion type fold. Is that correct? Anyone have reference photos that show detail of the top folded down?

hi kenaz,
maybe i just got a bad kit, happens sometimes. still overall the kit is very good. i read this is a newer kit, not a rebox of an older kit, i maybe wrong. some of the components look totally new, I have Kubels by 5 different makers. still, i like Kubels.

hi again,
i especially like the Dragon Kubelwagens, better than Tamiya's by a longshot. in some of their kits you get some very good extras. Though the driver figure in Tamiya's kit is one of the best i've seen
Chris- i voted for W. :-) (++) (++)

I haven't seen a Dragon kubel kit anywhere. Are they reboxed by someone else now? Are they difficult kits to find?

Amen figures were junk it is the old Hasgawa / DML / Bego kit with some new parts the price is too high for a re box and the same old windshield too. Markings are P.C. But the luchs rocks !
