Hi all,
I would like to build a Hummer used in Iraq by the special Forces similar to this one in the Pic (from militaryphotos.net)

And I was wondering would it be possible to do this with Italeri's Desert Patrol Hummer by leaving of the cover on the back or is the cover already attached in the mold?
I really appreciate all the help I can get as I have never really done any substantial work on Modern stuff before.

Hi there Andrew. Yes I definitely think it is possible. I converted one not so long ago. I actually took the hard top off the rear & scratchbuilt some of the parts.

I think this kit was the Italeri's commando hummer, not really sure, I have a bad memory. The tarps are tissue paper & the stowage racks were made from styrene strips. The stowage items were from the Legend & Verlinden stowage set kits. The spare tires were from an old Hobbycraft Humvee kit. There are more pics in my gallery if you want to check it out.

Andrew
I am currently building a SF Humvee. Have a look at the site detailed below. I found it in my search for detail information about these vehicles. A conversation set for a DUMVEE from Pro art Models here in Europe.
I also have other details of sites providing photos and information about these vehicles there are so many variants for the Humvee

Hello!
I think this convertion is very hard for the beginners. I will not do it but i think you may build Tamiya's hummer if you want to build hummer from Iraq
See you soon

That Humvee in Frenchy's photos is "do-able" with Hobby Fan/ AFV-Club R.O.C. Humvee or maybe even CMK's M966 IDF Humvee TOW.
The CMK kit is viewable in BLAST Model's website under Resin Kits => CMK.
I used the Hobby Fan/ AFV-Club kit for my sci-fi Humvee in My Photos.

Looks pretty accurate to me. I noticed the resin winch, a nice idea since all Dumvees I've seen have a winch...and the Tamiya M1025 doesn't.

No M1025 has a winch. With winch it would no longer be M1025, but M1026

Tamiya M1046 kit correctly includes winch parts, so it would be possible to base Dumvee on this kit, but it is more expensive than basic M1025.

Here is a SF Dumvee / GMV that I scratchbuilt last spring. The underlying kit is Tamiya's recent Humvee release.
Good refences for this vehicle include Soldier of Fortune magazines from late '03 early '04 as well as the documentary National Geeographic: Inside Special Forces (available on DVD)

Sgtsauer -
Thanks for the compliment. Let me return the compliment... those are great ref. pics in your galleries.
Anybody know when the ProArt kit is due out. I'm thinking of parking another dumvee next to the scratchbuilt one in a diorama.

Hi Guys,
Last weekend I bought the Pro Art Models conversionset for the Dumvee. The set is great with a lot of detail, in short I would Highly recommend it !!
Since I am building this set I am also looking for any pictures I can find of this Humvee.
Cheers,
Marc

Can anyone give a parts breakdown of the kit? I see the Pro Art Models photos and it looks like the $50 USD kit contains:
* Rear seat highbacks
* Front bucket seats
* Interior strap
* SINCGARS radio and shelf (cage too?)
* Five tires
* Stretcher
* Main gun mount
* Two smoke GLs
* Rear cargo step
* Side rails
* Passenger pintle MG and mount
* Passenger side ammo rack
* Lower body armor
* GPS antennae
* Rear antennaes
* Rear bumper
* Front Winch
* Bolt heads?
* M2HB?
* Should come with a new main gun ammo can...that is a must.
* Should come with a new ring too...the lighter smaller HMMWV ring.
Looks one one has to cut the Tamiya roof. That's a bit dangerous...one miss or slip from straight..and WHOOOOOOPS!

. Fortunately Tamiya has very good customer service to order a new HMMWV roof if one messes up...
One has to take out a ruler and measure that roof exactly. Or myabe the Pro Art instructions has a paper ruler.
