Hey there I am wanting to build a simple display base for my P-51. I was noticing in some old photos, it looks like they used to lay down some sort of metal caged material in the airfields for the planes to use as a driving surface as opposed to the mud and to prevent them from getting stuck. My question is what were those called, and is there anyone out there that makes a scale version to use in dioramas. I wish I had a photo to show what I was talking about. Sorry if confusing....

Redman- the material is known as PSP or pierced-steel-planking. I believe several of the major AM companies make it (Aber, Eduard, Verlinden, etc.)
Best of luck!
[EDIT]- sorry, forgot to mention it was also known as "Marston Mat"

Thank you very much sir! Right on the money, went to Squadron.com and did a search for PSP. Quite a few nice options came up. Thanks again for your help.

you could probably scratch that. Just cut some foil to size and roll it over with some fine treads or something.
