I am working on the Tamiya M48 suspension. Last time I built an M48 is was the Monogram version (Late 70's). I recall a small tensioner roller betweeen the drive sprocket and rearmost roadwheel. There is an axle shaft on the Tamiya chassis where it looks like one should go, but I can find no parts, nor anything in the destructions that leads me to this conclusion. Any ideas guys???????

Ok, the real tankers out there might have information to the contrary, but here goes:
The M48, M48A1, and M48A2 carried a dual-wheel track tensioner after the last road wheel. The M48A3 and A5 did not. So, perhaps, at one time Tamiya might have considered (or produced) an earlier variant of the A3 model you have - and the tensioner arm was included in that release. It is not used for the A3 you have now...

That makes perfect sense.....typical 70's Tamiya....Gunnie for President...Styrene for the masses.

Okay, then would the reasonable solution be to cut off the uneeded axle shaft and apply putty liberally? That would be my guess, but I never profess to know everything....Tanks again gang!

Jeff,
Squadron's M-48 in action has excellent representation of all the M-48's in line drawing profile. If you don't have access to this, e-mail me and I'll send you a copy of the line drawings. I used this book (and the M-60 version) when I did a collection of M-48 and 60 variants in 1/72 ESCI kits.
