Seems as we gave them to the Russians I would use the same colors as Amercian tanks I bet we painted them for them too.

The Russians were frugal. They did not re-paint the tanks and often took lend=lease tanks directly to the front with no modifications or work at all. The only think you want are markings... available in several formats... slogans, red stars, etc. The site listed gives quite a bit of information.

The Soviets were not too fond of the Sherman, either, but it was used. There is a great book by a former Soviet officer entitled Commanding the Red Army's Sherman Tanks: The World War II Memoirs of Hero of the Soviet Union Dmitriy Loza and it can be found on Amazon at:

I also have a book about lend-lease equipment... but most of the M-3 pictures on the site are the same as the book... which I think they were lifted from.

Hope that helps...

Squadron/ Signal Publications book; "The Eastern Front, Armor Camouflage and Markings, 1941 to 1945" by Stephen J. Zaloga and James Grandsen has a few black and white pictures of lend-lease equipment in action. On one of the color plates, it has a side view of a M3A1 Stuart and a front view of a M3A5 Lee. The color shown is similar to British 1943 Khaki Drab---kind of a cross between field drab and faded olive drab
