Scott - since that appears to be a church I'd think there be cobble stone paving near it, but ofcourse due to the damage it would be at least partly obscured. Just my thoughts.

Well then your idea of dried mud / dusty road works for me. I just don't think the road would be right adjacent to the walls, but a little ways off, maybe seperated by some burnt grass, and a path leading towards the structure ?

Hai,

I know that area pretty well. I've been there several times with my motorcycle. Don't forget that many, especially small churches are surrounded by a graveyard.

I do not see a door or gate in the piece of church that is still standing. Could I therefore assume that it is the back of a small village church?

In that case it would, war damage appart, be surrounded by a grass field full of graves.

In general, I dop not know this site to well but when it could be usefull, i could upload a batch of pictures of Normandy. (When i figure out how to do this)

The main memories of most veterans that I've spoken to are of dust when it was dry, and mud the rest of the time. After years of war even cobbles and hardtop were covered in layers of the stuff!
