Hi guys, can anyone please tell me what headgear US tank destroyer crew wore? Was it normal helmets or the tank helmets?
TIA

just refered to pics of Concords U.S. Tank Destroyers in combat and Squadron's U.S. Tank Destroyers in action.
mostly looked at the M10, M18 pics..
Pic's in Training it looks like the entire crew wore the tankers helmets..
Pictures taken in combat show almost everyone in the turrent wearing GI Helmets (my guess is the open top made em a little uncomforable when shrapnel started flying)
Pictures takenin combat mostly show the drive and assistant driver wearing the tank helments (football ones) my guess is so they could hear the commander give orders from the turrent in the intercon system.
but this doesn't seem to be total.. in some pics more than one of the turrent guys are wearing tankers helments.. and sometimes the drivers are wearing GI helments..

Stormbringer -
Most of what I've seen goes along with "Delbert's" assessment. While looking at combat references for my M8 Armoured Car and then some M10/M36 photos, the Crews seem to prefer GI helmets in open turret positions while drivers, etc wore mostly Tanker gear.

Lord UPS
I concur with the others here Pete. My photo sources show mostly drivers/co drivers with the standard GI helmet on.

Lord WWH
I found a figure (origin unknown) of a US tanker complete with helmet and was thinking of incorporating him in my M36B1,unfortunately as he's in a standing pose he can either go in the turret or stand beside the vehicle so now I'm not so sure.;
