The strip has been added to the sponsons. I borrowed a slat off my chain link fence in the back yard, cut the strips off and drilled them. LOL! Hey it works!
Here is a pic with strip attached, how does it look?

You need a heck of a lot more holes. The sandshield rail was a constant row of holes, not just a few. I'm trying to find a pic to scan. I count approximately 20 holes

Howdy Garry,

Yer gonna hate me, but someone's got to have the courage to tell ya ......that strip is at least twice as wide (vertically) as it should be......sorry. I alsodon't believe it was mounted below the sponson edge, but actually on the edge.
You've got the length correct. It ran from the hard edge of the front of the hull (not out to the 'regular' fender), and then all the way back the rear hull edge.

Shermie's is also correct about the number of holes in the strip. I also don't have a photo handy, but I believe the spacing was every six (6) inches.
Also, something to remember (and it might be easier for you), is that some crews/maintenance personnel would just re-screw the bolts back into the holes along that strip after the sandskirts had been removed. So, if it's easier for you to add boltheads, instead of drilling all those holes......you have a choice.

Don't let the changes get you down Garry. You work is excellent, and your modeling 'attitude' is superb....keep it up!

Tread.

Thanks for all the help on this Gordon, Bob and Alan ! I think I am going to move on to other issues of the build untill I can find the right material to make these strips. I dont think I want to carve on my poor fence anymore! I'll have to wait till I can afford a trip to the hobby shop.
Now to resize that muffler bearing ! LOL :-)

Cheers,

Garry

Yeah ... what Tread said.

Like I said in the other thread, use the kit parts as a guide to where the holes should be. I just take the kit part, lay it next to the strip and mark the spots with a felt-tip marker. Then I go back and drill them out.
