I did a complete download of all the sites activity logs for the pasy 5 months and had WebTrends process them. I was interested in how many unique monthly visitors the site gets. This is tracked by user IP address so it is not 100% exact but close.
Here was what the report showed for October 1-30th (31st was missing for some reason):
Unique Visitors 106,206
Visitors Who Visited Once 77,827
Visitors Who Visited More Than Once 28,379
Page Views 3,403,601
Average per Day 109,793
Average Page Views per Visit 16.04
Successful Hits for Entire Site 12,299,031
Average Hits per Day 396,742
Home Page Hits 2,188,871
Cheers,
Jim

Jim
Seems like some good info to pass on to your advertizers or to potential content contributors.
12.0 + million hits over 5 months, with 1 in every four unique visitors returning for at least a second peek, (or more). Impressive.

While those figures look impressive how do they stack up against expectations or other sites?

Steve,
The above is not data for 5 months but just ONE month as I wanted to see how many unique users we had for October (which was slightly higher than some of the other recent months).
And yes I am very much interested in changing the view-points of vendors and manufacturers. They spend a LOT of money for print ads with top modeling magazines that have circulation numbers (magazines per potential reader) far less than the level of unique people per month viewing this site. I found it quite interesting anyways.

Pretty impressive numbers i would say and there is a theme to work them out to find some way to give them some value and make the site financially breathing better and in general be more well known

Practicalities here - how can this be translated into simple, understandable English?
When I am e-mailing (potential) advertisers, I wouldlike these figures distilled into an easily understandable format. In other words, I may understand SOME of the jargon, but a lot goes over my head. This is probaly the same for many of the people who pick up the e-mail....
The figures DO look good, but is there a way of, dare I say it, Dumbing them down, without losing the impact? ...Jim

I am not an expert but I would think any advertiser wants exposure to as many potential viewers as possible i.e. the 106,206 unique viewers in a month.
Repetition is also good in advertising, i.e. 28,379 unique viewers came back for at least a second, (or more) look.
396,742 average hits a day and 12+million hits for the site means its active, i.e. people are looking.
These numbers for a single month look awfully impressive. As a new content scout, I would have no problem pitching these numbers as "proof" of an active vibrant site to any advertizer/content donor, which is exactly what they should be looking for.
Just my opinion -- but these numbers looked awfully awfully impressive.

Staff Jim;
I think it would be a good idea to condense that info and make it part of the home page so potential sponsors, members, etc. wil see it as soon as they hit the site.
