I got a couple Hummers both Italeri but one is the Desert Patrol Hummer and the other is the M998 with the Tow rocket on it.

My question is the bases for the weapons are they cast or steel.?

I figured I better ask cause if they are cast I better put some texture to them before I paint them.
Thank you a head of time PS. I keep forgetting about this new section. Sorry about that

Straightedge,
It appears to be mostly welded steel. Check out the rest of the photos in Sabot's (Major Rob's) old gallery of his motorpool at : https://armorama.kitmaker.net/motorpool

Here's one of interest:

IF you are talking about the turret ring it's sheet metal. It's texture is fairly smooth to the touch. Same goes for the hardtop. CHeck out my personal gallery here on Armorama. I've built the Academy's M966 though not the Italeri verson. You can alos go to my personal web page and see more photos and all the after market items I used to make it http://train.missouri.org/~emgeer/model_web/ModelPages/m966.htm

The Italeri verson of the TOW carrier is many faults in it. The major one is the turret ring. It's reversed of the way it is suppose to be. THe interior is also very lacking in detail and accuracy.

David I appreciate the picture of the top of the roof, and Edward, I had down loaded all the faults on these Italeri models. There was an article a long time ago, that I downloaded, which I know there is a lot of faults. I'll never know how they got it wrong on the front bumper, with the 4 holes, you can see that from a far distance.

I know back then they weren't allowed to get as close to the vehicles back then, as they can today, but that was something that could be seen from far away.

That was one of the things they should of had right, but considering, they done a pretty good job, all and all, at least it's close.

That's because Humvee prototypes indeed had bumpers with four holes, not three like later production variants you know from photos. Several other features of Italeri kit, which are wrong for production vehicles are actually correct for prototypes. Italeri used prototype vehicle as a reference to make their models.

By the way, your Desert Patrol kit also represents a prototype version, which never went into production.

Then Pawel, your saying all the pink Land Rovers on that website are prototypes. The others are armed, but not exactly the same, but there is only so much you can do with one Land Rover. The main difference is the guard rail looking things on the sides, that these have.

I guess on the hummers they had way to many others to have used the prototypes in actual service. I had always wondered how they got things so close. I know they wasn't allowed to, but they would let me sneak a peak at some of their stuff, when I was on some of the bases, so I guess they would clear them to look at the prototypes.

I was just happy to find actual pictures of the real Land Rover that Italeri used to make that model from, I see that they didn't used to be pink, cause they wouldn't of painted the peddles and steering wheel, and all that the first time, I know that is just a quick restoration, but I wished they would of done it right, now I'll never know what color they were originally.
