I finished my vignette at last. I took the earlier advise from Slodder and others to color the grass brown, and to add some more around the MG to make it look more as if the Germans had been surprised and left in a hurry. I removed the MG as I don't think they would have left that behind, but I added some reading material from the Plusmodel range. The helmet came with the Italieri Demag with PaK and as it's hollow I addded the strap and internals.
I will have to take some better pic's outside soon, maybe even with some real snow as background.
This one was taken before I changed the area by the log
Enjoy
Henk

Looks great Henk, the white wash looks cool, and I love the snow. Great job on a little vig. Nice work.

Thanks Gents, glad you like it.
Kevin, I havn't added any figures other than the commander and driver as I wanted the emphasis to be on the Sherman and the ice and mud finish of it, and the overall idea is that the Germans were surprised and did a runner.. :-) .
Cheers

Nice one! I don't have much to add to what's been said by the others already....great groundwork, the snow looks good and the area without snow looks real good!

Henk,
Excellent vignette. The details around the logs tell an effective story. I really like the way the snow was used, the transition from the bare ground to the more covered area to the rear of the tank.
Well done
Jay

Hi Henk,
I woildn`t add anything else it`s a great little vig, lots is not always necessary to tell a story, and you know there are people there you just can`t see em. Very nice sense of being well used in the way the crew put the camo on,the weathering and the stowage. The way it sits on the snow next to just enough stuff left by the opposing forces is excellent, works well. The logs are a nice touch as is the magazine. Pleasing to the eye, excellent work!

I like it, looks good, it does give the impression of a hasty retreat.
The only place I would add figures would be a crew in the sherman. But thats not a maker/breaker deal. Either way is fine.
Nice.

The white wash was done with heavily diluted enamel white paint (Humbrol). Just brush on thin layers much as the crew would have. Then, before the paint dries, use a flat brush to streak down the paint to create the 'worn of ' effect. you can alter the amount of streaking and create that run down effect by loading the brush with thinner, but clean the brush inbetween as otherwise the paint doesn't diluteI was realy after the effect of whitewash being washed of through the rain, rather than being rubbed off. I think it worked o.k.
Maybe I should write a little 'how to' feature..
Hi Slodder, thanks for the original tip to add some bit's around the log to imply that the Germans had hightailed it sharpish. It has really completed this dio.
There are two crew members in the Sherman however I think they don't show well in the other pic's
Cheers

Looks good Henk....
A little write up on your white washing technique would be a nice addition to the site.
