Hi Gang,

Here's my first serious attempt on airbrushing. Bep was so kind to introduce me with the technique, and after some practice on older models, here's my first result!!
It's Tamiya's Tiger I E late, with Attak zimmerit, some Eduard PE, and a Barrel Depot alu barrel.
Detail-painting, washing and weathering are still to be done.

Let me know what you think, please be honoust, so I can try to improve!! Grtz, John.

well what to say . I think your first serious airbrush attempt is full of succes. I see smooth colours laying and a perfect finish. The tank itself looks very nice. Move to weathering and finishing , to see it complete. Welcome to the air power John

John

Quite a good start you have here mate. Lovely ain`t it..... an Airbrush?
Only thing I can advice you is to spray a bit more constantly. What you see now is that the centre of the camolines is on some parts quite thick and really good visible. Look at the back of the vehicle in image 3 the brown "Triangular" shape with the green lines around the top side. they look a bit "Vlekkerig" spotty.
Further you have done a really nice job on the tiger and also the ATAK is a good upgrade of that vehicle.
I wonder how you did get the Decals so nice on to that Zimmerit really well done

Very good job. The camo pattern actually fools my eye a bit and distracts the actual shape so I guess that's a double positive.

hi John,
very nice work for your first attempt... your build is very very good and i liked the paintwork too. I dont know the camo scheme of this Tiger I E but the camo lines looked so straight to my eyes maybe moving your wrist a little more can make some inclined camo lines next time.
congrats brother

Don't you just Love an airbrush!. They do make a huge difference.

For an initial camo job, you did a good job. You can be proud of it. I agree with Faust, on you next kit just thin the paint a bit, or move you hand a bit quicker.
With this you can tone it down a bit with a nice dusting of pastels.

Thanks for the encouraging comments, guys.
Do you think I can tone down the somewhat heavy paintjob with dull-coat?

@FAUST: The decals were simply done using Micro Sol and Set, no special technique whatsoever....

Grtz, and thanks, John.

Ola John

Thanks for the explanation on the decals.
You could tone the heavy camo a bit down by applying several Filters and washes. this way you blend the colors together.

I saw the same heaviness as Faust. You can also help reduce this by starting your spray before the edge of the surface you're spraying and bymoving more quickly as you go over the tank. And to be honest, I've seen a similar effect on full sized, real life aircraft and ground vehicles.
Other than that, you've done an excellent jb for a first time effort.

I can honestly say I wish my first airbrush job looked that good.
Just remember John, that it's 90% practice, and getting to know, and getting the feel for the airbrush. (reguardless of manufacturer)
Even after all these years, I still warm up, (like a baseball pitcher,) before I actually spray on my models, using an old piece of cardboard. This really allows me to:
1. test the paint thickness
2. check the spray pattern.
3. practice the fluid motion needed.
Keep up the practice, and you'll find yourself improving.

Hi John ...Welcome to a whole new start to modelling ...You'll see with practice that so much can be done with your airbrush ...New techniques that can't be done any other way ...like pre shading ..post shading ....fading ..mists ...and so on and so and so on... You will see some amazing differences after just a little practice... Nice job on your tiger ...Only one little thing I noticed is that Totenkoft Tigers didn't use the death head divisional sign on there tigers.. and the numbering system was three digits starting with a 9 in white outline only...Just thought you might like to know.

Ola John,
What a little encouragement can do.
I think you did a great job so keep it up and keep practising. I know you've got the talent. At least now I know where the PE went to :-)
C ya mate.

Wow I hope my first airbrush job will look the same (or better off course hehe) I'll buy mine in about two weeks....

I suggest you go try weathering techniques with your airbrush. I believe they're very usefull for that as well....

Hey DRAGONWAGON!

That is a NICE paintjob, man! I wish I could do my spray painting as good as you!

This is a little but Faust:

What the heck is a Filter? I'm confused.
