I just got the AFV M88 "Nam" off ebay. Other than changing from a gas engine to diesel, where there any significant exterior differences?
I searched and found a couple threads about converting an 'A1 to 'A2 but none just into an 'A1.
BTW, ebay rocks for finding cheap models if you don't mind the wait for shipping

Howdy webfoots,
First, welcome to Armorama! Second, as to your statement.....
"...BTW, ebay rocks for finding cheap models..."
In the early days of Ebay it was indeed a Goldmine.....anymore though, you really have to work up a good lather and dig deep to find deals like they used to have.

Well, that's probably because no one ever bothered converting M88 to A1 when you can just buy excellent AFV Club's M88A1 model.
I would have to take a look inside my kits boxes to find what exactly were external differences between the two. I remember some details on engine deck different, but I think there was something more what I can't remember now....

Hi,
The only external difference I can recall deals with the access panel for the on-board generator. It is located on the right side of the superstructure towards the rear. The other difference of which I recall deals with the air cleaners inside the crew compartment.

Jeff's right. Other than the gasoline engine vs. diesel engine, "Little Joe" is the main difference. Little Joe is the nickname for the APU. It is used to fuel/defuel another vehicle.
Your best bet is to ask if someone with an AFV Club M88A1 or Revell of Germany M88A1G (same exact kit with Bundeswehr markings and some extra German fittings) would want to trade. The Nam version M88 is the rarer kit.
If you do want to convert it to an A1, visit my motor pool. I have photos of a couple of my M88A1s in there. The link is in my signature block.
