Hi all,
I've got some questions about my Puma, but before I ask them, I want to tell you my plans (a little background information)
About 1 year ago, I build this Puma:
I think the vehicle itself is quite good painted (handpainted), but it has no weathering or camo sceme. (handpainted camo sceme looks bad)
I want to improve this vehicle. First of all, I've remove a lot of paint (thick layer of paint with dust etc in the layer itself, which makes it a very ugly, undetailled surface). After that, I'll use my airbrush (finally I've got one!) to paint it again in dark yellow, with a green/brown camo sceme on it. I'll add extra camouflage (foliage and a camo net). Off course, I'll weather the vehicle as well.
Now, I've got some questions:
- I want to add a crew to the vehicle. They will rest outside the vehicle. Can I use normal panzercrewmembers? E.g tamiya's german tankrcrew at rest? The vehicle will be put on a Normandy 1944 diorama!
- What color should I give the camo net I want to add to the vehicle? (if possible, please in humbrol nr, e.g "the camo net should be humbrol nr 30)
- What is the color of the inside of the hatch on top of the turret?
- Do you guys have any other tips etc?
- Did the recon squads in Normandy also use Sdkfz 223's ?? (for the diorama)
Grt and thanks in advance!
Martin

Another pic:
I love these pumas.....they look absolutely great, I think I'll build another sdkfz 234 as well, maybe the 75mm or the 20mm version!

Hi Martin!
mighty nice Puma you got there!
- What color should I give the camo net I want to add to the vehicle?
The colour should be Khaki
- What is the color of the inside of the hatch on top of the turret?
i'm not very sure on this, but i think it's the same colour as the base colour of the vehicle. In this case, dark yellow
I myself, love pumas too... I just couldnt resist the sexy look of this vehicle! Theres another Puma by Tamiya, i think it's a new release... looks quite good...

The Tamiya Puma is a rerelease of the Italieri kit.
Inside of hatches should be exterior base colour.
You can use the panzercrew as there wasn“t much difference in the cut. Im not sure if it should be black, fieldgrey og camo as i have only seen one photo of a Puma with crew.

Hi guys
Thanks for the reply's, they're very usefull.
Got 1 question about the khaki camo net though: could I use humbrol 26 for this, or do you mean the khaki drab color (don't remember the number, it's green khaki)

Danny I hate to tell you this but the tamiya kit is just the Italeri Puma boxed by Tamiya for the Japanese market...Too bad because we could use a new Puma as the Italeri ones are beginning to show their age..
Martin you can use the tank crew figures no problem . But now you got me thinking ..Would the uniforms be Black or field grey?? I would say field grey but .....hmmm. I'll have to check my references.
The inside of the hatches should be dark yellow.
I know at least the 2nd Panzer division had them in France ...I think LAH had a couple also but I wouldn't bet my life on it ...I don't think there were many 223 left in France by this time of the war but I guess it could happen ...the 250's had taken up alot of those duties.

Ok
Are you talking about the 2nd SS panzer division, or just a wehrmacht division? And which allied forces did they met?
Sorry, I don't know much about the units etc.
Grt,
Martin

Hi mate nice Puma
it'll be looking sweet
as far as top hatch colour for inside it will be same as exterior base colour
uniforms would be Black panzer uniforms but to be honest the crew would also have worn cammo uniforms i.e. panzer wrap in either splinter (for wehrmacht) or s.s. spotty or oakleaf
even 4 pocket tunics and smocks too ,remember this is a recon unit so feel free to mix uniforms
as later in the war example normandy the tank crews even started to abandon thier famous black wraps
in favour of cammo

Lol as a little kid, I always used to play soldier with my friends.....I'm sure you're all familiar with it, make your onw rifle and run trough the forest screaming to each other ("you're dead! - no I'm not, I have a flak jacket")
Well, black was my favorite camo-colour.....nobody ever saw me....the never knew what hit them :-)
Ok maybe it's a little but I had to think about it as you said the germans abandoned their black wraps for the camo :-)
Never mind.....
Hey I've got an anwser on all of my questions from my first post, but if anyone know more about the units which used Puma's and which enemys they met in Normandy, please tell me! Saves me a lot of reference-searching hehe
Grt and thanks so far!

mate i said that as a general term not becaus i meant that black was no good as a camo i perhaps didnt word it too well what i meant was this will give YOU more scope to paint YOUR figures instead of generalising the black panzer thing people seem to always do !

I was talking about the 2 Panzer division and not the 2SS division.. This division fought against the US forcesin August. I have quotes of the 79th Infantry division supported by 213Tank Destroyer Battalion fighting against the 2nd PD.
