Hi all,

I've just enlisted for the Mud, Sweat and Gears campaign which will start December 31st, 2004.

The goal of this campaign is to build a recovery or engineer vehicle.

I want to build a Sdkfz 251/7 C halftrack for this campaign. (the dragon kit)



My intention is to put this halftrack on a diorama. I don't want to give to much away already, but my plans are to make a diorama of the Blitzkrieg in 1940.

Now as far as I know, the Sdkfz 251 C saw first service in 1940. I need to know whether the 251/7 version also saw action in the battle for France in 1940 or not. I hope so, otherwise I have to changes plans once again.

Oh and if they weren't already used during the battle of France, when were they first used then?

As you see on the box of it it says it was used from 1939-1945... That should answer your question about it seeing first action. It was first introduced in The Battle of France but with only an MG mounted instead of the anti-tank/anti-personell. Hope this helps...

Thanks for your reply, but you're wrong about the 39-45. That's just one of dragons series (world war 2 vehicles and figures), and it say's little about the usage of the vehicle (just that is was used during WW2)

For instance, the pzkfw Panther is also part of the 39-45 series, but was only used from 1943 till 1945, and not from 39-45.

I understand about the at-gun you mention, that's just "wrong" boxart. The kit itself also has a normal MG mount, which I will use.

Btw, are you 100% sure they were introduced in the battle of france?

Come on guys......is there nobody who can tell me whether the Sdkzf 251/7 was used during the invasion of France in 1940 already? And if not, when they were used first then....

This is an Ausf. 'C' they were not produced until late 1940. Therefore it cannot (with any accuracy) be used in the invasion of France. Of course if you were to use an 'A' or ''B' with the engineer equipment it could be used.....Jim

Martinn, the 251/7 was only produced as either an Ausf. C or D. No other versions were produced....Jim

Well,Martin,how about a 251 escaping the Falise pocket in '44?By then,the Germans could have used the vehicle to provide temporary bridges to cross streams and brooks. (++) (++)

Great idea Carl! And as they used to have mines aboard.....they could cover the escape!

I think I'll use this idea!

Oh, if anyone can give my any details on this event (falaise pocket)....like units/divisions, camouflage scheme's etc, please let me know!
