Hi guys,
I want to build the tamiya Mathilda tank, representing a BEF vehicle in France, 1940.
There are just a few things I need to know:
- Does the vehicle need major changes?
- Which markings should I use?
- Do you guys have any pics/reference material?
Thanks in advance!
Martin

Matilda II: At the outbreak of the war in September 1939 only 2 were in service.
Used by the 4th and 7th Royal Tank Regiments1 in France 1940 at Battle of Arras1.
Ok I know this already.....
How many were in service in 1940? Still only 2?

If you'll take a look at:
Go2War2
You'll find a table that shows the following strengths:
Matilda I Matilda II Mk VI Bren Carrier
4th RTR 50 0 5 8
7th RTR 27 23 7 8
(sorry - element gets stripped out)
Hope this helps,
Mika

Just copy it on your browser and it should work !
Else jump my main page ( address underneath) and on right side click on " Echelle 1" and after on " Materiel 39/45" and that's it !

Oh btw, is the camouflage scheme this tank has a scheme that was being used by the BEF? And if so, which colors should I use if I want to paint this scheme on my own Mathilda? (tamiya or humbrol paints in possible...)
Grt and thanks a lot!

I do believe you have to change the muffler arrangement on these early Matilda tanks ..The best reference you could find is the Osprey book on modeling the Matilda by Mark Bannerman... It will show you all the differences you'll need to fix...Not expensive and worth every penny.

Hello Martin,
The best start for this project would be Steve Zaloga's article on the BEF Matilda II. It is in both the Osprey Modelling title and in Military Modelling.
As for what is required to build such a vehicle ... that depends on how far you want to go. Do you want something that looks like a BEF Matilda or do you want to go all the way back dating and correcting the kit?
A number of the changes/correction can be accomplished without that much work ie correcting the front hull or raising the suspension. Overall, it is not a diffiicult project.
I can help you with some of the details and provide a few photos. Just drop me an email.
