Ok, I broke down and ordered some Heki grass via the internet. I received my shipment and was disapointed. It is the "sheet grass" type stuff. Can anyone give me the product number of the long grasses we have all seen discussed here?

I can't but if you hang on you should get the answer.

I know jackhammer81 used some in his current diorama, so if you don't get it here PM him

Hi Patrick:

The name and number Vinnie provided is correct. Heki also makes several other varities of long grass. I ordered about 5 types from Scenic Express and have their catalog at home (they offered great service by the way). I will look up the numbers and post them tomorrow. Unfortunately, Scenic Express' website is still under construction and does not show the Heki grass products. There are some pictures of the Heki grass product in my gallery if you want to take a look. Also, here is a thread I started a while back that shows the pictures: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/36248&page=1

Kevin (Jackhammer81) ordered his Heki grass from a Canadian company (don't recall their name).

From current Scenic express catalog #12

HK 1573 Moorland (dark green)
HK 1574 Savannah green (more khaki colored)
Hk 1575 medow green ( light green)
HK 1576 Pasture (darker than #1575, but lighter than 1573)
Hk 1577 Dark green (darker than 1576, but still lighter than 1576)
HK 1578 Alpine (between 76 and 77 in color)

shoot, I'll just scan one into my gallery..

The pics make the moorland look more brown than the catalog does.

Yes, it is not cheap. But the effect is amazing.

I just use it to fill in small corners of dios or under single figures.

Noch and Sliflor make similar products. noch makes a great fall brown/straw colored sheet .
it is brown all the way through though. I am tempted to take a small piece and airbrush it green from the bottom side to see if I can get the 'green at ground level, brown at the tips' effect

Also silflor sells sampler packs of various lengths all of the same season. As well as 'tufts' and some strips of grass .

Unfortunately Scenic Experss is out of stock on most silflor right now, I know because I tried to order a bunch.

I see that MLD has already provided specific information about Scenic Express' products. Their toll free number is 1-800-234-9995 (9-6 Eastern Standard Time).

I just dropped some serious dollars at Scenic Express. I bought their catalog for $3 (refunded on the first order). I went nuts over the Silflor, Heki and Noch materials. I have a lot of Woodland Scenics material (they are not far from where I live), but I can't wait for my shipment. Some of the items are pricey, like $20 for "Prairie Tufts". I would like 3-4 colors, but can't swing it unless several like-minded peope shared the cost and the product.

Since scenery is my favorite part of a dio, I am in real trouble with their catalog in my hands.

Here's a tip for those that like "freebies". I've believe that "Field Grass" we buy is human hair. So, I sweet-talked my barber into giving me one of her collection of ponytails that she had on her (back) wall. Now I have a lifetime supply of fine field grass. If you want green, either dye it or (carefully) find a neighbor with a youngster with fine, blond hair that loves swimming in pools with too much chlorine. Voila, green field grass!

P.S. Hey, what's this business about our names instead of our callsigns being shown on the posts?

Further update on Scenic Express.

1. They are totally redoing their web-site to be the best. Right now you can't enter a part number to find a specific item.
2. They are temporarily out of some Noch and Silflor items, but they were scheduled to ship already and should be in within a week or so. I have sampler packs, etc. on backorder. They send backorders no additional freight, which is a customer friendly thing.
3. Save you some math for most of their products. In 1/35th scale...
2mm=2 3/4" high
3mm=4 1/8"
4mm=5 1/2"
5mm=6 7/8"
8mm=11"

Now where was that thread about making your own static charging tool?

also try eurorailhobbies.com, they carry it and it is based off the currency exchange rate at the time your order is processed, only thing is they have a minimum order. That might put people off at first but the first time I ordered the heki grass (about 2 years ago) I ordered all the colors and it covered the minimum order. Fast shipping also.
Regards,
Robert

Hi Harrison:

I don't think they have the Heki Grass on the website. However, if you go back through this thread, the product numbers and some pictures are listed. Also, I posted a thread with some pictures of one type of the Heki that I purchased. With that information, give the 1800 number a call as Scenic Express' staff was very helpful.
