I am thinking of building a Sherman maybe after Christmas. Any thoughts on the best model of a Sherman out there. M4A1-M4A3???

The best Sherman will be a mish mash of resin, plastic and photo-etch. Perhaps if you narrowed the parameters a bit a more precise answer can be given.
For OOTB starters I like the Dragon M4A1 Early and Tamiya M4 Early. Both are easy builds but have some issues.

If it is your first Sherman kit I would say any of the tamiya versions The DML M4A1 is a great kit But they have individual track links that have 3 pieces per link
If you have experience with indy links then go for the DML versions

Hi Tiny,
I'd say, go for the DML Russian M4A2, the kit comes with very nice extra's, like clear periscopes, some PE, an alu barrel, and NO indi links, but a nice set of vinyl tracks. It also has a very fine moulded 76mm turret....
Just my two cents, John.
Ps. Merry X-mas....

if u are build ing your frist sherman,
get a tamyia sherman.
they are nice fiting and go together nice,
and the build sheet is clear simple to read.
dragon build sheets are the worst lol

I second that !!
I woukd also go with the Tamiya early M4, as it is a nice and easy build.
It´s the right stuff for a first timer...but be aware not to become a shermaholic!!
I guess shermies rule (and many others) know what I´m talking about!!
Cheers Gunnar

I agree, Tamiya's Early M4 is a good place to start.
The old Italiery M4A1 is quite nice too. I remember building that one many many years ago when I was 9, and it turned out well...so it shouldnt be hard for anyone. Its also the cheapest of the bunch. $22 (US) last I saw it
A word about sherman kits though. They all have something wrong with them. Especially if you wish to build a specific individual tank...for example the early M4 is not really an early production M4, but if you do generic decals (stars only)this shouldn't be such an issue.
Have fun with your sherman, whichever one you decide to choose
