Fellow Diorama Builders,
the year 2004 is rapidly coming to an end and therefore it makes sense that we take a look at the new year 2005.
I'll cut a long story short and will come to the point right away :
I fancy one annual, good and big, diorama campaign rather than multiple smaller campaigns. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against multiple campaigns, but I just don't fancy to join them (all).
From the viewpoint of "one big annual diorama campaign" I was wondering if you are interested in a big Diorama Campaign in 2005 ?
So 4 questions to answer here :
- Are you interested in a BIG 2005 DIORAMA CAMPAIGN ?
- What "theme" or what "X-Factor" should the campaign have ?
- When is the best time to run it ?
- Are you willing to take on this campaign as (assistant) Campaign Leader ?
Love to have your input on this one !!
NB : Let us please focus on answering the four questions, in order to get a good view on what we want in the next year as far as Diorama Campaigns are concerned. Once we have this idea, we'll start new topics so we can work everything out.

Hi Eagle
Sure I'm interested in such a campaign.....It would be great to have 1 huge diorama campaign!
About the questions:
- Are you interested in a BIG 2005 DIORAMA CAMPAIGN ?
I am!
- What "theme" or what "X-Factor" should the campaign have ?
As I'm WW2 addicted, I'd say WW2, but off course I wouldn't want to exclude other subject builders from this campaign, so I'd say something like all era's. As long as the diorama has some sort of background story!
- When is the best time to run it ?
Let's say April 2005 - December 2005....should be enough time to build nice dio's (if you don't make them too large)
- Are you willing to take on this campaign as (assistant) Campaign Leader ?
Sounds nice, but I don't know excactly what my responsibilities are then....so if someone could explain me, please!
Grt,
Martin

I don't excactly know how to say this in English, but as you're Dutch as well I'll say it in Dutch for 1 time...
Aangezien er nu dus 1 grote dio-campaign is, moet je de mogelijkheden vrij breed houden....dus niet vasthouden aan alleen sneeuw diorama's ofzo. Ik zou zeggen een redelijke vrij keuze.
In English.....as we have only 1 big diorama campaign like this, I think we shouldn't have just 1 x-factor like snow.

Danny - as we say in the US - You are The Man
? 1 - Yes
? 2 - Must have a cliff of 8cm high minimum and a man made structure OR it must cost less than $15. or both. I like the cost factor because it allows a lot of people to join who are on a tight budget and for those who aren't it forces a lot of inginuity. (I'll be happy to write up a "Cost List" example for the start if this is accepted)
? 3 - Start - whenever - end July/Aug/Sept
? 4 - But of course!

Hi Danny,
Thats a great idea for 2005.
1. Fully interested
2. too many options for one or more X-factors but it must not be a FORCING one not to irritate people joining the campaign. for example ; a CAMO X-factor ; you can build for all periods and for all nations but at least you should paint one of the figures or vehicles in your diorama in camo uniforms or schemes. Besides Scott's COST X-factor is a very good idea too.
3. it will be better to have it a 5-6 months lasting campaign.
4.In service whenever needed especially when a brother needs me
Happy new year.best wishes to family (:-)

Being a Campaign junkie I think it would be great! However I think the X Factor probably can't be selected until a theme is seleted.

1) Interested- YES!!!
2) X-Factor- Agree with the previous comment on something that will allow a degree of latitude for different eras and interests. Maybe the "snow" idea, or water...need more thinkin' on this one!
3) Timeframe- Start time is not the primary issue, to me total time and finish date would matter, so... total time 5-7 months and finishing date before Thanksgiving (late November).
4) No sense flinging BS on this one. I'd be over-committing to say yes, so I'd sadly say "No".

Hey Guy's i don't want to create any enemy's here, but you are asking "What theme and X -factor"...my idea, How about something a little more morden. I'm thinking a time frame somewhere like 1980 to the present time. We never seem to see many of the other wars or battles eg: Granada, Panama, Afgan-soviet, Falklands, South Amarica and so on.
Best time for start date, well looking over at the campaign board most of the campaigns running now, most are ending around the month of May. So maybe early summer?
Interested, yes no matter what theme or x-factor that come into play.

I'm in. When it comes to X-Factor, let's think about what we've done in the past. We did snow, window, dug in position, flag, and civilian. I'm all for making us think. Everyone think about the unusual.........tombstone, manhole cover, camo net, etc. The more we have to think about what we are putting on the diorama, the more fun it is. Oh yes, did I mention I'm in?

Ok some answers , since i am also a campaign Junkie and a dio junkie . Too many addictions together
- Are you interested in a BIG 2005 DIORAMA CAMPAIGN ?
Absolutely YES
- What "theme" or what "X-Factor" should the campaign have ?
Some option i d be willing to follow :
1) U.S. Cavalry and Indians (horses, wagon, buildings, anything)
2) Vietnam
3)Ancient times (like Troy story...)
4)WWII but with 2 enemy army elements present (fighting, surrendering, dead, hiding, ambush whatever)
As for the Xfactor i d like it to be some complicated like
Like a) A cliff and water at same scene
b) Snow and a building same scene
c) a motorbike and at least 1 tree
d) Animals (at least 2 different ) i like that a lot !!!!
- When is the best time to run it ?
well for me it has to finish later than September and give at least 5 months time
- Are you willing to take on this campaign as (assistant) Campaign Leader ?
Well i am overstucked with model work , but since i love Armorama and Dio's i am willing to help in all my powers. But this has to be permitting me to build for the campaign also ...

1. I am indeed interested
2. I am open to any theme as long as I can use AFVs.
3. Over an extended period of time.
4. Wouldn't know what to do in this regard.
I really like the idea of this. The cost factor is intriguing. One thing that would keep me from participating would be if there is a minimum size that is too big for my area that I display my models.

1. Yes I am interested
2. Theme - I like the idea of "France" - as many battles have been fought there over the centuries. (although this would cut out cowboys and indians) Or maybe a season - summer winter spring or autumn - then the place could be anywhere. Or even just "Ambush" - that could be anywhere and anytime.
X Factor - I like the idea of a cost cap on the construction of the base, also a 2 level base with at least 8 cm difference in height - so not necessarily a cliff - a steep slope (wadi) or canal/river bank or even a street and building but there must be something happening on each level.
There must be protagonists from both sides in the dio.
I think also that there could be something like at least 1 tree, 1 animal and a civilian implement (eg farm cart, wheelbarrow, plough/tractor, car?)
Just some ideas to toss into the ring anyway.
Time - for me as long as possible - I have a model comp to prepare for in early May and I may be away from home for a couple of months up to June - so October-November would be good.
Assistant Campaign Leader? No - only because I don't know what to do - but I am willing to learn.

Hey Danny,
Read this post a week ago and decided to give it some thought.
1) I really like the idea of having one big diorama campaign with as many modellers as possible participating. So YES!
2) I thought for a theme/x-factor that would be broad for many timeframes and theatres of operations is for all the dioramas to have an indoor side, be it infantry clearing a house, a hidden tiger, a well placed sniper in the loft....
Whilst every diorama does have to have a piece of indoors, the whole diorama need not be indoors.
I like the price limit factor, but what about making the constructions of any building or wall, etc. all have to be scratch-built rather. I feel this would be a nice touch and encourage more modellers to use their own creativity to build a structure rather than using prebuilt walls & houses.
3) This is my matric year, so May/June = exams, Sept = mock exams & Nov/Dec = Finals. So the sooner the better, I'll just ignore the outside "my modelling room" world, agg I'll just make a plan, modelling makes a great study break!
4) I still don't know how I managed to run Operation Cover-Up, I struggle to visit armorama once a week these days.. Mr.T pity's me. So ni. ekky ekky.
I like the France idea as well, but am not keen to model two opposing armies, would rather have trace elements in the dio representing the previous armies occupation, be it abandoned weapons...
I would love to here what others think about my suggestions/ideas.
Happy New Modelling Year!
