Davy, without a doubt Milicast.. That is until the new ones come out from Eduard as far as using an LCM is concerned, most Shermans were landed by LSTs in Normandy and the ones that were landed came in the second/third wave...
A lot of these shermans were equipped with deep-wading gear, or at least were waterproofed.
There are quite a number of kits available in plastic, from Italeri, Revell, Esci etc. however most of them are re-boxed so a bit of care is necessary when choosing...Jim

HAT makes a decent M4. the real bonus is that you get two complete tanks in each kit for one price. Chem em out.

I've got the Eduard M4A3 (76)W and it is a very nice kit. I recommend it. I built the old Airfix LCM (3) and it is a decent kit, but the old Airfix M4 Sherman that comes with it is terrible.
Won a few awards with the LCM and added a Fujimi M4A1 early. The Airfix and Fujimi kits are actually 1/76 scale.
I believe the Millicast Sherman's are 1/76 scale as well.
If the price of the Eduard kit turns you off ($22), go for the ex-Esci Italeri M4A1 Sherman. Still a respectable kit as well. If you run across ExtraTech Shermans, they have share a few common sprues with the Eduard Sherman.
The Revell M4A1 (76) is fair. For a short time Revell issued them in a Matchbox package and Monogram issued them too. Only difference was the decals and the Matchbox kit was molded in white. This Sherman is not to be confused with the old Matchbox Sherman Firefly in 1/76 scale.

Are there a lot of addons for these 1/72 Shermies? Are there dozers blades, flails and wading kits readily available? I think I've seen an Esci Calliope on eBay.

Armo makes some resin/PE/aluminum conversions. I recently bought the M4A1 early conversion for the Esci/Italeri M4A1. Nice barrel and PE but the upper hull is only fair. I've used most of the kit parts for my build. Check out Tracks-n-Troops for these items.

The sheman tank that Extra Tech Accessories makes is a really nice kit. It has a detailed chassis, hull and turret. Three piece cast nose, optional open/closed spoke wheels, narrow gun shield, Link and length tracks. Photo-etch detail parts. Mkgs for US, Canada, and UK. Runs for like $27 or so, but worth the cost. Its a beautiful kit either way you look at it.
