Hey. I'm just starting to build my first diorama (Flak 88 of PzGr.Div Grossdeutschland in a road at Russia in summer of '42). The material for dioramas seems just to be overwhelming.. does anyone know a good site or maybe a book for dioramabeginners? Kinda A to Z-thing I'm looking here..
Thanks for any answers!

Hey Marko,

While I am no diorama expert maybe you would like to check out this website:
Docdio's
You will find a diorama build up, step-by-step and with pictures. Lots of information in there.

I can definitely help you with the book part. Get Shep Paine's How to Build Dioramas. This book tells you how to do everything and even goes into weathering and superdetailing. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask here.....

Thanks a lot. Both answers helped me big time - I can already see some light at the end of the tunnel - or should i say, barrel.

Cheers and see you around!

Marko,
As you start your "career" in diorama building, remember to keep your story consistent. Nothing will stop a judge quicker than an inconsistent story line. I remember an excellent piece of modeling skills several years ago. In it, there were mechanics working on a Bf-109, officers having a meal and several other vignettes happening, all the while a squad of Americans was fighting Werrmacht troopers in the street. Individually, these side stories were well executed and showed fine skills, but when they were all put together, they made no sense.

Another GREAT book for the beginning dioramist is Roy Porters Master series entry on dioramas. You can read a review here in our RESOURCES LIBRARY DIORAMAS section.

Hee's a word of advice from my own experience when I made my first model.

No matter what technique you use, you are bound to use stuff that is either dirty or messy, and even if you are the most careful person in the world, you are bound to mess up your tabletop, the carpet or your clothes unless you take good precautions. Put a layer of thick plastic sheet on your tabletop before you start messing with the groundwork, with glues and paints.

This advice won't help you to make a better diorama, but you may stand a chance that your mom (or wife, depending on your age) wants to keep you in the household just a bit longer if you take care...

Have fun !

:-) take folgore's advice.when i started many years ago,it was the best book to have.certain things are a little outdated but 90% is everything you need to know ,and then you just modify.
glue's and paints have changed .
his methods will alway's be exellent.
