Excellent dio. I just recently completed a Tiger and always great to see other Tiger builds. Can you give some details on what you did?

That is one spectacular diorama. I guess the ice is wax? over resin?
Great detail - even the spray of water/snow coming off the front of the tracks

Amazing, I like the ice.

Same question as the others, how did you make the ice?

My question, how did you make the rain stripes??
Also I love the fuel drums at the back of the tank.

BTW welcome to Armorama!

thanks mates for the response ok here goes, shall start from the beginning:
first took a cheesboard(hardwood) and cut all the way trough a halfcircle out of it and siliconed - screwed a thinner piece on the underside so you make a halfcircle basin in your board ( take care the basin is watertight ) next step when you finished making your bank ( sloping : land-water) is to maske off the place were your piece of armour is suppose to come, i've just used a piece of cardboard and painterstape for that. next i've brushed the hole area were the ice is with a mix of 50/50 white gleu/ water (about 3 coates) to seal eveything, now paint the bottom of yous river or stream with dark green-brown (just play around abit with colours ) and lighten it up to the bank, used enamels for that. the ice is just paraffin wax heated so it flows like water (thats why everything must be watertight ).when that hardens just remove your masking and clean it up a bit were your tank sits. now take a thick needle and scrape some cracks in your parrafin to simulate the strain the ice is under of the weight of your tank. now i'll brushed one layer on the ice with gloss gel medium from LIGUITEX so you get a oneven apperence of ice. when that's all dry gleu your tank to the base and poor in thin layers clear polyester resin around , on the 3 layer put some flat broken pieces of parrafin in your resin so it float in between layers . on the last coat of resin just play with it a bit with a toothpick to get some ripples.almost done, now when dry i've brushed several layer on the resin with gloss medium ( just let it dry between layers but if you wand some white wavetops build it up thicker, it's stays white then).
and the snow is just your basic groundwork with broken leaves then brushed a thick layer with a mix of baking soda-white gleu-water and when dry sprayed a mist with white gleu and water and fine sprinkled from above a light coat of pure baking soda.
well i'll hope it will help somebody to take a leap in making suth thing , it was a pleasure for me to make it , ohhhh Sorry for my english

Maffen -

Welcome to Armorama and I'm sure you'll enjoy be part of this fantasic modeling "family". From the looks of that outstanding diorama, I know we'll be looking forward to and enjoying your builds and inputs. Very, very nice work and one of the best, most convincing "winter" scenes I've seen in awhile. I especially like the Tank Crew, definitely looks like they're wrapped for the conditions. Most definitely looking forward to more of your work. Take a look at the "Campaigns" running. You've got the "winter" idea well in hand and would make a great "Ardennes" participant. Again welcome aboard,

Hi and welcome Janssens,
I know I'll say the same things that everybody already said, but I can't be without speaking anything.
So, wow! Man, that great way to introduce yourself!
I'm here sweating a lot, and your dio gave me a fresh sensation. I'm very impressed with the water being slippery of the tank, the broken ice and the frozen face of the crew member at the right hatch.
Congratulations.

A truely spectacular dio! Very convincing ice and it sure gives the apearance of being very cold....not an easy thing to capture in a dio IMHO! Thanks so much for sharing your work and the technique used for making the ice and water...great work!!

Welcome and Happy New Year!

I think the ice and water effects are great. I think a great dio illustrates a story or feeling and this one does the job. I can almost see feel the steam rising from the broken ice as the heat from the tank meets the water!

The figures aren't too shabby either.

I have yet to try any water effect but I sure am enthused by the result you achieved.

Happy New Year,

Michael

awsome job on hte ice and snow and the overal dio itself, great idea! one thing on your fourth pic, the water, it looks liek sea water to me, not a river, and i doubt that tiger can swim maybe could have added some sand or earth, soemthing to make the river bed look more realistic, or simple paint it with an "earth" color to simulate the mud lifted by the tank as it crosses the river

Frank

GREAT DIO!
