This is my first dio it is far from finished.

And I like to hear your opinion about it. So I can change the wrong things.

very nice but just one remark will it be a part of something bigger because of the sidewalks sticking out on the sides gives a look like you will be adding other segments to it....

i'm sure it will look nice when finished

Looking good so far! Assuming you are doing something with the sidewalk sticking out, I can't find much to critique here.

I like the split peas for cobblestones! It works well and they look real once painted.

No, no, no the sidewalks I made where to short because I wanted to make the dio 2/3 of an inch inside the edges (look the other sidewalk), but the plan changed so I made it to the end of the edges, but I still have to cut it away. I also have to lay the rest of the cobblestones.

Looking good so far. I wouldn't change anything at this point.
Things to watch for as you go
Colors are very bright right now, weathering and washing will tone that down.
The window details need to be fully accounted for, rubble or broken.
The corner cap stone on the building is very uniform, it could use a bit of damage
Do a forum search for rubble quantity and get a sence for how much rubble you're going to need.
What are the plans for the other corner and for the road? What's the storyline.

I still have to wash it and so on, this are only the base colors.
And the cornerstones are still loose because I still must paint and damage it.
On the other corner is only coming a little broken wall from another bulding. The figure that is on it is going away, there is only coming a Russian sniper on it sitting in that building all covered for "hunting some officers". And maybe a german patrol.

And what do you mean with this I don't understand it.

Ola Rob

Good to see some work from you mate and What kind of work!!!.
I`m really curious about some of the stuff in your dio. IS the building homemade?? If so you did a damn fine job. I would add some glass in the windows and on the ground to show the devastation of the war. The sidewalks are brilliant even though they are not finished yet. great work on that. Your street only needs a layer of wall Spackle and a paintjob an that is finished too.
One thing I would really change if I were you is the size of the poster. The size you have now is the size they drop out of Airplanes like leaflets. The original posters they stuck to the wall were quite big. somewhere between A3 and A2 size. If I recall correctly and from what I Can see it is the poster of Lenin with his right arm up. It is a great poster which will do well in your dio I would only make it larger.
I have an example of that poster on a dio I made some years ago:

This is about the size the Posters were made. Compare it with the sniper laying below it.
Further I just as scott would like to see the colours being toned down and make sure you add enough rubble from the collapsed building obviously there is about 2 or 3 stories above it that collapsed and that leaves some rubbish. A lot of rubble and Dust makes the scene a lot more realistic. Make sure you add a lot of wood too. Planks scattered all over the place etc.

Great Job so far can`t wait to see more of this dio.

Yo faust how was your vacation?
The building is homemade with styrofoam,
I still have to make the little details like the glass.
The poster is small I know but nato308 sad there were diverend sizes in the war, but don't worry i'm also going to stick a big one on the wall. (this was only a test one)

And everybody thanks for the compliments.

Hi Rob:

The others have pointed out where you need to go with this in prgress diorama but I like it so far! Could you explain your building method for the house?

Yep, first I have cut out the form of the house out of styrofoam then I cutted all the bricks out with a x-acto knife.
The gaps between the stones I have lubricated with elmers glue.
Then a made the windows frame with wood, and given the whole building a grey primer and a second gray coat.
And then I painted all the bricks with humbrol number 100. (sorry for bad english)

Looking good Robster. I like what i see so far.
No nit-picks at this stage but 2 words of warning.

Keep your spackel as dry as possible. If too wet the peas will lift, split or peel. I read somewhere that somebody added dry spackel and painted over the top with white glue and this worked well.

Make sure you have a really good base of acrylics down before you use washes .... if using washes of oils or enamels. The thinner will get into the cracks and melt/corrode your work. Best to use waterpaints for washes if possible.

I know about the oil washes I had some holes at the back of my wall after I washed it but I can fill it up no problem. now I'm only using acryl washes for styrofoam.

But do you know what is strange I had put a peace of styrofoam in terpetine and the next day it was still untouched and with washing it melts away.

And here is an update I have washed and drybrushed my building now.

Great Start! I have one small nit pic. Before you start to weather the bricks, you may want to add some variation to the brick colors. Look at a real wall, there are many shades of reds, browns and greys, to me the walls look a little too uniform. On the other hand, the split peas are a great idea! Cannot wait to see them painted.

I know the walls are still uniform that's because I only gave it one drybrush with an light earth color. I'm gona give it 3 or 4 more drybrushes.

Here on this pic you can see a little bit more variation of brick colors.

Wow! Rob, I have to give props on using the peas, man. I have NEVER seen that before & I have seen and read some pretty creative uses for items that would not be considered useful for what you are doing!

To me drybrushing is weathering. What I ment was to pic out and change the color of random bricks. Hope this is more clear.

I read an article somewhere telling you how to make cobblestone streets with Lentil seeds. Very nice dio so far. Is the brick section scratchbuild or did you buy it?
