Apparantly the M3 Stuart did not have the turret basket, but the Slightly later M3A1 did.there are other changes needed too,for example the commanders cupola on the M3 was not used on the M3A1.There are probably other things different ..................but thats all I can think of at the moment.
Hope this helps

Yes, the variant that is pictured on the box top and the model is supposed to represent did not have a turret basket. Academy cut a few corners since they plan on releasing the correct version that the interior belongs to at a later time.In the Academy m3 kit the turret comes with a turret basket, but im not sure if its supposed to have one in it or not, could you guys give me some help

HI there
There was a thread about the Honey a while back.
You can see different pics at the AFV Interiors web site. There was also a long thread on Track-link's NGs about this.
The interior is very wrong for the Honey variant. The ammo containers with the curved sides are totally wrong. The interior has a trio of small rectangular boxes for ammo storage. There should be a sling for the commander's seat, if anything. The gun mount is wrong for a Honey, it should have a shoulder rest on the opposite side for the gunner. The bolts on the sponson machine-gun covers should be removed, those plates were welded on. There are lots of details missing on the turret interior. The fire extinguisher should be in the opposite side from where the instructions suggest.
The outside of the kit is OK from what I gather, but there were a lot of changes made to the interior by the British, and as Sabot mentioned, it's clear Academy took a BIG shortcut and just released the Honey with the M3A1 interior.
At least things look good for the M3A1.
Cheers
Andy

I found that the gun and gun mounts arre wrong on it, so i will probably just build it without the turret basket, and leave the rest of the interior as it is.

War--I have yet to even open the box, so tell us if you leave off the basket what does that do in terms of items you can not use? At some date, can you post the parts numbers that are not found on this variant?
thanks

Taking a glance at my instruction sheet I see the following "extra" M3A1 interior parts:
turret basket #A1
gunner and loader seats # A13 x2, A19 x2, A20 x2
37MM round storage bins # C8, C9, C10, C11, C20 x2, C21 x2, C22 x2
The radio #B21 is apparently an American vice type 19 Brit version
If anyone has more/better data please feel free to correct me.
hope this helps,

The other possible prob is the colour scheme its'self.
I just painted mine to look like the boxtop ( blind faith I know, but it does look good ), but I have since found quite a few pics of Honeys in splinter patterns and none match the paint instructions in the kit. The nearest match I have found has a three colour pattern on the hull, not two.

Brno--what color did you use to replicate the blue pattern?

I went for the colour of the pics on the box, because every preview and the first few reviews of the kit showed it as a deep blue rather than a grey. The mix suggested in the kit didn't come close to matching the pics I'd seen, so I started with Model Master fs35109 blue and mixed in MM Rlm66 schwarzgrau until the blue had been toned down just slightly. It is still a blue and not a grey and with a bit of a wash on it looks just like the pics, whether that is wrong or not I'm not sure.
I've since found pics of a three colour splinter pattern, but I haven't been able to find anything on the web or in any of the books I have that matches the pattern suggested in the kit. But then my reference books are just general armour titles - I can't afford any of the Walkaround or In Service type books ( single dad + 2 kids = no money ), so someone with something more specific to the M3 might be able to shed some light.
I've seen the three colour scheme in two different books that show the pattern the same, but the colours in one are dark grey/ silver grey/ dark yellow, and the other one has dark blue/ pale green- grey/ khaki, so who knows....... confused yet?
I'm just glad I finished the thing before finding all these contradictions....... It looks good as is, and I guess thats what matters most

Brno--thanks. If you get a chance and receive FSM you might take a lokk at the VLS advertisement featuring the LVT from Italeri. They show it in the same blue gray tone and I'd like to replicate that color. I was not sure if MM has a paint that matches either color scheme. I assume from your response that one has to mix and match vice getting a given color?
thanks

DJ,
Are you building the M3 now or just researching? I've got that kit "in the bullpen and will start it after I finish my M12 GMC. Unlike many, I do one at a time. I get enough multi-tasking at work.

DJ,
If you are looking for blue paints in MM line, look at aircraft colors, particularly US WW2 naval air colors. There are a number of different blues and blue-greys there.

the actuall colors of the honey were, azure blue, and raf middle stone, and flat black on top of the turret, the main gun mounts are missing the big m3 shoulder pads and and the gun is actually out of an m3a1, as for the use of the turret basket, it is just one piece that you can glue onto the bottom of the turret basket, so you can leave it off very easily. I have about 10 books on the stuart tanks because my dad used to collect and restore military vehicles, and we have a stuart tank. and that is probably got me into building armor models.
