Anyone know what type of king tiger that is included with that 1/35 r/c set that tamiya sells? and which king tiger would should I get, the production turret or the porche turret? Is there any major difference between them?

It depends on what theater you want to portray, I beleive the Porsche turreted KT's were all sent to France, there were only about 50 made. The rest were used in the Ardennes offensive and used against the Russians.

AFAIK, the 1/35th R/C KT is the "Henschel" or "production turret"; the version of KT that was made later and in greater numbers than the earlier "Porsche turreted" KT.

The major visual diffs are that the Porsche KT turret is more countoured or rounded, while the Henschel is more angular in shape with a "bell-shaped looking" mantlet.
The Henschel turret alleviated the shot-trap under the gun and the "weaker" turret wall bulge where the commander's cupola is positioned.

If building a "Porsche" KT, be advised that all but 2 had the zimm applied, while with the Henschel KTs, you could decidely build a later prod version after zimm was discontinued - no need to deal with zimm.

Certainly there are other "less obvious" diffs between the Porsche and Henschel, but the turret is the most evident.

Yes, several Porsche KTs made it to the eastern front, the most "famous" being the one with the "Annelise" marking ahead of the mantlet.

One other thing... if it's R/C armor you want to get into, you may want to consider a purpose-built R/C tank, vs. a warmed over scale model kit.

The kits themselves are understandably fragile, and suspensions are more suited to display than movement.

I say this from years of experience following "wired remote" 1/35th kits around the kitchen floor. They tend to throw tracks, slew about, and on carpeting - well any dustbunny of any size is a track jam.

For about the same ducats as a Tamiya 1/35th R/C tank, you can get a Marui 1/25th scale Abrams, TigerI, Leopard II, Academy Leopard II, or the fragile but nice Hen Long 1/16th Tiger I.

just a suggestion!

yea that is what i want, a r/c tank. So I guess I'll have to get the marui if I just want a tank to move around and play with? but they are already built, I want soemthign where I build myself. I was thinking of getting the 1/35 tamiya. I also just check out the academy r/c but they are "wired" not really r/c.

my quote on this "if your gonna do it, do it big"

i know that the 1/16 scale tamyia R/C's can be expensive but well worth the money. the 1/16 pershing is a great tank. and hopefully in the next 6 mo. ill have the king tiger. pricy but worth it, not to metion that they take a long time to build, over 1000 parts or so. inc. screws.

Actually, Academy makes a true R/C 1/24th Leo II that shoots those little plastic 6mm beads - like the Marui's do.

And... consider the "mods" you can do with one of these Marui "non-kits", to wit:

That's a nice lookin' Abrams for not having come from Tamiya. Re-building can be almost as much fun.
Justasuggestion.
