I've been fascinated with the Battle for Berlin and the final days of World War II for ages now, and after making an impulse buy of a King Tiger, I stumbled upon this painting.

This really got me thinking. Making Georg Dier's Tiger would be easy enough, but the Reichstag would be an almost insurmountable challenge. I would build only a portion of it, but it would still be quite a difficult task. Has anyone attempted this before, or have any ideas on how to do so?

You could try an old rail road modeling trick where you only model part of the Reichstag in the foreground , may be up to the steps or pilliars then use artwork in the background to complete the effect? Other than that if you are going for the whole thing you might try some ideas from :

I saw that painting in a magazine a while ago and thought it would make a great dio. I was also thinking of just doing a portion of the building, obviously. I might take a little liberty and cut the top of the building off. Have the pillars broken part way up, or something.

Hi Nick,
a great book is Tony Le Tissier's "Race For The Reichstag" which is something of a street by street account of the battle loaded with maps and super photos....what blew my mind about this battle was the lack of any major German combat units defending Berlin....
Volksturm
HitlerJugend
Nordland SS division (many Scandinavians)
Munchenberg Panzer division
French SS (Charlemagne unit...I hesitate to call it a division)
Luftwaffe Flak troops (Flak Towers)
GrossAdmiral Donitz Battalion (Sailors fighting as ground troops)
.....
you get the picture
another book I just picked up is Berlin Dance of Death by Altner...looks good but I haven't read it yet
cheers,
Dave

I'm not certain, but I think the German field units were either cut off from Berlin by the Russians, fighting the Western Allies, or destroyed. Sounds like a neat book, Dave. Thanks.
