there I am happelly modelling away, working on finishing my M-577 ( I had build it, scratch build a lot of little things amd painted it) after putting on the decals I wanted to put on a flatcaot to get a uniform finish on the model.
so I goet out a jar of Revell's matt and started to spray it on the model.
Then to my horror I saw the mat turning whit on some parts (and yes I did clean it befor I started) it looks like a combo of frost and spider webs. That was not the look I was going for .
So thats the last time I'll be using Revell Matt.
So can any one tell me what to do, what to use the next time (I can only get Revell, Tamiya and humbroll)

I use humbrol gloss and Matt coat. I thin them on a ratio of 2 parts paint and 1 part enamel thinner.

sprays on just like regular paint through an AB.

cheers

Jan,
I don't think its just Revell matt. I have had the same trouble with Testor's Dullcoat a few times. You spray it on, looks fine, and when it starts to dry, it starts turning a frosty white.
The question has been brought up before, but I can't remember what conclusion we came up with; old, bad batch, humidity, or what ever.
I would try a fresh jar on something else first. If not, go with John's sugestion on Humbrol matt. Or maybe you can mail order you a good stock of Testors Dullcoat, Model Master Acryl Clear Flat, or Polly Scale Clear Flat.

When dull coats turn white, it's because they're too old. The problem is, I'm not sure if they have production dates on the cans or bottles.

Yep, I've had Humbrol do exactly the same thing, even when it's been very well stirred. I think Steven is right, it did seem to happen to an old tin as I remember. Also I wonder if the thickness of the coat has some effect. I've noticed that if you start to build coats up they tend to go semi-opaque. Also happens with brush painting on figures, so it's not the AB.

I do too think it has to do with an age factor, but IIRC thinning it makes it work. Again if I recall correctly it is because the thinning agent evaporates and the matt coat crystalizes.

I think it was age and temperature conditions especially humidity
