Looks great RV1963. Nice paint chipping in the crew compartment. Only thing I would add is a nice, dark oilstained wash for the engine compartment and the engine..
Cheers

Looking good mate! You could rub a pencil with a scalpel blade, make yourself a little heap of graphite and then rub it over that floor, it would look great as wear.

That's looking cool, RV.
I really like the worn, rusty look, but I 'm afraid I'm gonna have to be a major pain in the arse and say that the fighting compartment floor ansd walls would be painted OD to avoid observation from above.
I feel such a heel for having to point that out...

Well Lance your are not being a pain this is the info i am looking for i just checked the only reference i have US Tank Destroyers by Squadron it looks like you are correct at least the floor under the turret should be green the rest in the book shows white even the walls, i am glad its not going in any contest that would look bad, oh well i think its to late to respray it now, its all been glued i will keep this in mind for the next one and check my reference materal better. Thanks

DON'T repaint that interior! White is correct.
I love the paint chipping effect -- looks very good.

Looks great. I just finished mine and loved the kit (for the most part). Where did the engine come from?

The engine came with the Academy kit it looks accurate from reference material i have.

Ah ha. Academy throws in an engine, and AFV (which I bought ) gives you a "working recoil effect" barrel...
Guess who gets my money next time....

????Was this the Duckbill version? Mine did not have an engine, thought the engine housing was detailed, obviously a common part for an later addition.

I think i go with Academy, so far the parts fit is good very light mould seems and i like the engine, and i have read here that AFV Club kits some times have fit problems, don't know if that is true.

Hi Bob,
I don't want to take issue but are you sure about the M10 interior being white?
All references I've come across and the general concensus is that the floor (at the very least) of the fight ing compartment is OD to prevent observation from above...

The floor could be white or OD. Most of the photos I have show a worn, white floor. Some floors may have been repainted OD, but I don't think it was for camoflage reasons as much as just available paint being used to cover a scratched-up floor..
Overhead observation of the white floor would have been pretty difficult. The turret interior was OD and chock-full of stuff. The gun breech of the 3-inch gun was huge and filled a large part of the turret interior. Add the seats around the turret ring and the crew members and you'd be lucky to see more than a square foot or more of floor from directly above.
I wish the old AFV Interiors pages were still on the Web -- there were some great pics of M10 and Achilles interiors that showed the white floor well.
The restored Achiiles on this page: http://www.howitzer.dk/vehicles/danishafvm10.htm has an OD floor, but if you look closely, I think you'll see the white paint showing through the OD where the paint has worn off.

Hi Bob-
How and why did I ever doubt you!
maybe it's part of the mythos of the M10 series!#-o
I just had a quick trawl through Missing-Lynx allied forum (upon which I based my information when building my M10s) and the concensus seems to be OD or white- hmmm...
... Steve Zaloga recommends OD floor with white walls ...
The annoying thing is that my M10 originally had a nice white floor that I repainted OD.
...Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in...
:-)

Your model is looking great. You have just the right amount of scruffines on the floor to make it look used but not sloppy. Are all the details from the kit, or did you use aftermarket parts? Wow Im really impressed. I want one too.

Thanks for the the compliment, no aftermarket parts were used everything in the pics came with the kit except a few wires and hoses i added but i don't think you can see them in the pics, so far a very nice kit.
