Ok dumb question! #:-) In alot of posts when it comes to aycrlic paints I see people use alot of diffrent ways to thin their paints ie: distilled water, glass cleaner, rubbing alcohol and so on. Whats the pros and cons on this? Is one any better than the other?
Thanks for any info!! Scott

Scott I doubt one is better than the other. most of us have chosen a particular way we thin and stick with it for ease. I would however reccomend that if the paint manufacturer make a specific thinner for it's paints that you use it. Otherwise use what you feel comfortable with. I use alchohol for cleanup and thinning gunze paints but use Tamiyas thinner for their paints and Pollys's for theirs.

Best stuff would be the manufacturer's own mix, cheapest would be car windshield washer fluid.

Hi all,
never have used manufacturers products.....for me various mixes of water, rubbing alcohol and future acrylic floor polish have worked well...and they are incredibly cheap compared to the stuff cranked out by the hobby companies!
Cheers

I would have to say that if you use acrylics, in theory, the factory issue will be the best, but if you use alcohol based like Tamiya, rubbing alcohol would be the best, but windshield washer fluid is also good, because of it's price

I concur with the notion of using the thinner recommended by the manufacturer, with exceptions. I do thin Tamiya with alcohol. I will use water to thin Poly Scale if the layer I'm putting down is not the base layer. For the base coat I use PolyS thinner. I may be wrong, but I feel it gives me a tougher base to build on. I use Model Master Acryl thinner for that product and water for Vallejo. Experimentation is the key.
