Concerning the turret basket. How should one deal with it. Can it just be left off?
Also, I have the old Tamiya Stuart and would like to do a recce. I remember seeing a conversion kit but can't find it. Can anyone jog my old feeble brain?

Accurate Armor has two, an early and a late version M3A3. However, they're both based on the Tamiya M5A1 kit. Good luck.

I'm wrestling the same alligator. If you leave it off ,consider leaving off the ammo stowage racks in the rear of the fighting compartment too. They are also found on the M3A1. There are some M3 photos at AFV interiors which will give you an idea of what it looks like.

Charles, just like Con said if you leave it off keep out the stowage racks too. The Honey was of the early types being the M3. The later versions, M3A1s and onward were equipped with the baskets.

The Honey/M3 interior question keeps coming up!
The ammo stowage, gun mount, and most of the interior details behind the driver are wrong for a Honey as supplied in Academy's kit. As suggested, AFVInteriors is a great help for pics.
Wait to work on the interior until after you install the bogey trucks. You have to fix the parts that stick into the hull once the bogies are installed.
