This is Tamiya's old KV-2 built out of the box. Its a good little kit that builds quickly and fits fairly well. There is some clean up required for injector pin marks.
The KV-2 will go into a little vignette scene as an abandoned vehicle that has been knocked out by artillery fire. This damaged vehicle, (as it looks now), is loosely based on an actual pic of a knocked out KV-2. For the vignette, plans are to add Model Kasten tracks, (heavily damaged on the blast side), a figure or two, some old tarps, a damaged utility pole fallen on the tank, and various sundry items to the scene.
To add some visual interest the hatches have been slightly opened. Since there is no interior, the hatches are opened only slightly, with the intent being to show a vehicle that has been abandoned as lost in combat.
The blast damaged area was a bit of stinker to model. Heat applied to the plastic, and some snipping here and there provide the damage. I really didn't know how to paint a damaged area as I could not locate colored pics of damaged Russian armor. I used Russian Armor green, rail brown, rust, and a mix of silver and roof brown to paint the damaged area. The open and damaged crew storage box on the fender is scratched from Evergreen plastic card. A partially rolled tarp will be placed partially in this storage box, with a good portion of it fallen out of the box, over the suspension, to the ground.
The KV is finished using airbrushed Model Master acyrilics and the Rustall, rust system. The Russian logo on the turret side is hand painted.
Originally this one was planned for the upcoming Russian campaign, but I jumped the gun.
Comments are welcome, and thanks for looking.
Steve

Steve your KV-2 looks awsome great battle damage, good weathering can't wait to see it finished. The KV-2 is one of my favorite tanks because it looks so different, nothing bad to say it looks great.

Looks Great! you may want to Consider how far that fender has bent, IMHO I think some of the paint would have chipped off, but I am really nit picking here.

You have done an awesome job on this tank, The blast are looks very realistic. may i make one suggestion sir?..........Would it be possuble to dirty the upper hull and turret up abit more......or have you got this planned to do in the future?

Been offline for only a few weeks and in that span of time Steve improves by light years
Damage looks just right for an artillery hit. You might want to add a few gouges on the turret and hull from the shrapnel and earth thrown up by the shell's impact. A little here and there and this one will be perfect.

I think the blast danage looks pretty good my only suggestion might be a bit of carbon scoring and more silver/steel.. maybe burnt steel.
Wonderful weathering and great work on the damage. Wonderful paint job. A1 first class! Cant wait to see more

Good looking monster.. I agree with Selrach, add some black powder or pigment to simulate the blast deposit. Depending on the amount of fire damage there is supposed to be, try white on the fenders edge, gradualy changing to black and then the tank color.
Cheers

Steve - truly impressive, as I am going through a minor KV 'thing' at the moment, it's always nice to see something a little different..
I'm holding off the KV2 waiting for the new Trumpeter ones - next up will be a KV1 Mod 1939 as a build review... Thanks for sharing it!...Jim

Whohoeeee
It always make me happy when I see a KV, I just love those green monsters
You have done a very good job. I like the hand painted markings and the overall paint job.
Is it this destroyed KV that you wanted to replicate?
I'm looking forward to your next update.
Keep up the good work!

Lord Kenworth, the translation is "Kirov Plant' in praise of the plant and workers that produced the vehicle.

what color's did you use to paint your kv-2?
I did pm Larry earlier on this one, but for others that may be interested the top coat is Model Master Russian Armor Green, over a preshade base coat of Model Master Marine Corp Green.
Thanks to all that have taken time to post here. I will look into getting some black pigments of some sort to apply near the blast area. From the original pics however, I don't believe a fire was involved in this action. Either the KV hit a mine or was damaged by some sort of artillery burst.
Thanks again.

Steve...Steve ..Steve ...what have you done again!! Another excellent model bud! The battle damage is believable and your painting skills are better everytime I see one of your kits ...I'd open up the two exhaust on the engine deck and add a bit of rust to them, and maybe a heavier wash in the intake screens, but for the rest it looks great Maybe a bit of darkened paint around the blast sight might show it off a bit more but as John said this is just nit picking...
Good job Steve.
