Typical powerpole (rural) is 30-35 feet long , 5-6 feet in the ground (25-30 feet above). The old telegraph system I've seen around here is shorter, probably 25 feet in length. So around 7 inches for 1/35 scale.

Italeri have a set of telegraph poles that should be relatively cheap. They all have to be joined in the middle which needs putty and a little scribing, but its worth it for the fittings on the end. Scale wise they´re quite good. Worth looking into if your looking to use some!

7 inches was good to know. How about the cross members?

The number of cross pieces depend upon what services are being carried, and what those services are.

typically power crossarms are 7ft or nine ft , but again I believe that the telegraph versions are smaller, 5 to 6ft , therefore 13/4 inches should be right .

Hi all
With regard to telegrapth poles , i have seen on recent visits and many pics that a lot of poles in Normandy were made of reinforced concrete with holes running up to the top, this was for ease of access for maintenance.
Never seem to see them in Dios of that ETO,although they are still around, there were quite a few around the town of Mondrainville Normandy when i have been there, and still had some shrapnel marks .
Cheers chris
