The Question is how widely used was T49 3 bar cleat track used on U.S. Armor.

I'm going to start the Academy M10 GMC And the track provided is this.. most of my reference photo's show the rubber block track or the steel cheveon track though a few show the T49 style.. though a lot of those seem to be the brits or free french.. so i'm wondering if these were regularly used on U.S. M10's or M4's.

T49 tracks were not very commonly used by U.S. forces -- you are much more likely to see them on a British, Free French, Polish or Canadian vehicle.

Kurt Laughlin has an interesting article here: http://www.usarmymodels.com/ARTICLES/Tracks/trackusagefiftharmy.html on track usage in the 5th Army. Kurt's research suggests that M-10s in 5th Army used rubber block or chevron tracks, but many Shermans had metal tracks. Photos seem to back all this up.

I haven't seen too many U.S. tanks/TD's in the ETO use this However I've seen more of that type used in the PTO on U.S. tanks I am trying to think of where I read that the T-49 had more traction in the sand

Guys,

I've got a few thousand photos of the US 752nd Tank Battalion, which served in North Africa and Italy. The vast majority of the tanks used T48 rubber chevron, T51 rubber block, or T54E1 Steel Chevron tracks. However, there are a few photos of tanks in this battalion using T49 steel cleat tracks, not only on Shermans, but also on M31 AFV's.

Hope this helps,

Bob
